The city of Portsmouth is located in Hampshire, on the south coast of England. South east of Southampton and south west of London, it’s the second largest settlement in its county, and has a proud naval tradition, having been a major port for many years.

Around 208,000 people live in Portsmouth, and the city also has numerous links to other places around the world, most notable being twinned with Duisburg in Germany and Caen in France.

Portsmouth has always had some association with the sea as far back as Roman times, however it grew into a major port in the 13th century, mainly being used for imports and exports, but also as a naval base. It grew dramatically in this fashion, and has been home so some very important ships, particularly HMS Warrior and HMS Victory.

Today the city still operates as a working port, however more attention has been turned to culture, sport and tourism. The Spinnaker Tower, Gunwharf Quays shopping area and Portsmouth FC never fail to draw a crowd. With a university located in the middle of the city, there’s certainly a noticeable vibrancy and diversity to the place.

There’s no doubting that Portsmouth is quite a large city, but once you escape its clutches it becomes abundantly clear that surrounding areas are ideal for driving. Indeed there’s a huge amount of farm and woodland to explore, and in general the back roads are of great quality. With the New Forest not that far away, there are also good links to Bournemouth, Brighton and even London.

At Motors.co.uk, you’ll have no issue with finding some amazingly good value used cars for sale in Portsmouth. Due to the fact prices are significantly lower than elsewhere, and quality is exceptionally high, what you’ll find are thousands of tremendous bargains. Including places like Southampton or extending your search to feature Hampshire in its entirety is the best way to end up with a seriously good deal.
