Corby

The town of Corby is situated towards the north of Northamptonshire county, and is around 25 miles from Northampton, the largest urban area. A population in the region of 50,000 suggests it’s quite a sizable place, although this is nowhere near what it once was during its peak.

Originally a Danish settlement in the 8th century, it became more important during the 16th century as a resting place for long distance travellers en route to or from London. Much industrialisation occurred in the 19th century with the discovery of substantial iron ore deposits in the area, and as a result Corby grew dramatically with the location of the Stewart & Lloyds steel works. An important manufacturing hub during the Second World War, it was made a New Town in 1950.

Mixed fortunes followed the decline of the steel industry in the 1960s, but the town has seen redevelopment in more recent years, with a number of business estates, a power station and notably the construction of the Rockingham Speedway racetrack. New housing areas, an Olympic size swimming pool and the Willow Place shopping centre have also been built. Such are the regeneration plans, the town has also been targeted as popular commuter area to London.

Northamptonshire is renowned as a great place for driving, as the motorway connections as well as A and B roads are all excellent. Obviously there’s also the Silverstone race circuit among countless others, so track days are very much a possibility. Corby is definitely in prime motoring position.

With literally thousands of different second hand cars for sale available at Motors.co.uk, the chances of finding used cars in Corby or nearby areas in the county are very good indeed; it’s a website with true UK wide coverage. Some of the lowest prices around coupled with immense quality overall makes it a one stop shop for bargain buys!
