The Ford Fiesta has been with us since 1976 and was the one of the first front wheel drive Fords. It was an easy car to drive and the performance was quite respectable, especially that of the 1.6 litre version which is capable of 105 mph.
The second generation Fiesta was launched in 1983 with quite different looks. This was available with a number of different engines, including a diesel. This was replaced in 1989 by the third generation and a five door version was also introduced. Improvements to both body and engines continued over successive years including fuel injection and a turbocharged version.
The fourth generation Fiesta was launched in 1995 and was an outstanding commercial success. In 2002, the fifth generation Fiesta was launched with very updated looks although it had a similar engine line-up. A major facelift was added in 2005 which updated the car in terms of both looks and technology.
The current generation, the fiesta Mark VI, was introduced in 2006. This has a very modern appearance and excellent performance in terms of economy, acceleration and speed. Just as previous models, it is an easy and enjoyable car to drive.
If you are looking for a really hot Fiesta then you need to go no further than the Fiesta ST. With its 150 bhp 2.0 litre engine it will zip you from rest to 62 mph in just 6.9 seconds. If that is not enough for you, you can get a Ford upgraded version with up to 185 bhp.
