Volkswagen has released a new top-of-the-range trim level for the Transporter range, which is now available on the passenger-carrying Kombi.

The ‘Sportline’ variant adds new stylish detailing to the range and will first be offered on the T32 Kombi, before a panel van version becomes available early next year.

Based on the Highline trim, which comes with a high level of equipment, Sportline adds new body features and additions designed to make the Transporter more comfortable and easier to drive.

On the outside, the Sportline is distinguished by 18-inch ‘bi-colour’ alloy wheels, carbon-fibre mirror caps and styling bars with puddle lights, as well as lowered suspension and deeper spoilers on the front and rear.

The interior also gets an upgrade, with embossed leather trim, ‘Climatic’ air conditioning, a heated windscreen and the Discover Media touchscreen navigation system all offered as standard.

Other extras added include LED head and tail lights, USB input, App Connect (which allows owners to connect their smartphone to the infotainment system) and Sportline badging and floor mats.

The first version to be fitted with the Sportline trim will be T32 178bhp 2.0-litre diesel Kombi, which comes with a seven-speed automatic gearbox. A more powerful 201bhp version will join the range in early 2017 along with two choices of gearboxes and a long-wheelbase model.

Available to order from Volkswagen Van Centres, the Transporter Sportline is on sale from £36,295 (OTR+VAT) with first deliveries of the model expected in September.
