How to choose the right Audi A5

The Audi A5 is a good-looking and stylish coupe. With excellent build quality and interior touches, it’s been an exceptionally popular car for Audi. On top of this, there’s a good range of engines to suit all drivers. We’ve picked out three of our favourite specifications, taking into account three different price points.

The smart choice for saving money – Audi A5 SE

The SE sits at the bottom of the A5 specification range. Coming in at £29,100 before options, it’s also the cheapest. However, don’t think that means you’ll be short changed when it comes to equipment and technology.

The A5 SE benefits from a 10-speaker system, which provides clear and impressive sound. On top of this, you’ll find Bluetooth connectivity and DAB radio. It also features MP3 connectivity on top.

Look further and you’ll find an interior trimmed in Milano leather upholstery, with the two front seats heated. There’s also a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, which gives drivers access to all of the car’s major infotainment systems through just a few buttons.

Outside, the car incorporates aluminium elements, which help give a premium look. There’s also an auto-opening boot lid and a front grille finished in high-gloss black.

Considering it stands as the base model A5, the SE offers an incredible amount of technology and equipment – especially considering its asking price.

The smart choice for those on a budget – Audi A5 S Line

The S-Line is a sporty and hardened version of the SE, and brings with it styling elements to match.

Inside, you’ll now find a full navigation system accessible through Audi’s MMI infotainment system. This is controlled through an upgraded three-spoke S line steering wheel, with paddle shifts for those cars featuring an automatic gearbox. The interior of the car also benefits from aluminium inlays, which highlight the car’s sportier intentions.

The exterior’s biggest change comes in the form of Xenon Plus headlights with LED daytime running lights. These give the front of the car a futuristic look, while also providing even better night time visibility than the standard units. Of course, being an S Line, the A5 comes with a full bodykit which visibly distinguishes it from the rest of the range. This includes S Line side skirts, bumper and rear diffuser, as well as S Line badges on the wings of the car.

Of course, these added styling and technology elements do come at a premium. Starting at £31,910, there is a noticeable increase over the price of the SE, though given the added equipment it’s the best choice for those who want to strike a middle ground between specification and price.

The smart choice for technophiles – A5 Black Edition Plus

The Black Edition Plus sits at the very top of the A5 range, and as such comes with almost every conceivable extra.

First and foremost, a complete Bang and Olufsen sound system is fitted to the interior of the car. This provides all the clarity that you would expect from a B&O system. Of course, satellite navigation is standard too.

The Black Edition Plus also benefits from Nappa leather upholstery, with the front two receiving electronic lumbar support. The rear seats can be split, too, making the A5 even more usable for larger items. A flat bottomed multi-function steering wheel completes the package.

The Black styling package brings with it some key elements that do not feature on any other specification of A5. Components such as the radiator grille frame and number plate holder are all now finished in gloss black, and the window glass from the B-pillar is tinted black, too. The side mirrors are treated to the same colour, as is the rear diffuser and side sills. All of the individual elements work together to give the A5 Black Edition Plus and extremely premium look.

However, for all of this exclusivity there is a higher price – £33,425 to be exact. Although a much higher price tag over the standard car, there’s no better version of the A5 for those who love to press buttons and stand out of the crowd.
