Used MG4 EV Information

Generations

Having only been introduced in 2022, there's currently one generation of the MG4 EV available, making life easier when browsing the used market.

As the first vehicle to be based on the brand's dedicated battery-electric Modular Scalable Platform, the first generation MG4 EV was produced with the European market as its primary target, which explains why it's such a hit here in the UK.

While other all-electric MG models such as the MG5 estate and MG ZS SUV prove popular in their own right, the MG4 EV is a more stylish alternative, offering family-friendly levels of practicality and a sharper driving experience.

Its well-equipped yet budget-friendly nature has also ensured it appeals en-masse, despite competition from the likes of Dacia,Renault and Vauxhall.

Powertrains

As an electric-only model, the MG4 EV has a fairly straightforward powertrain line-up, with three battery 'grades' to choose from:

• 51kWh (Standard): 167bhp, 0 to 60mph in 7.5 seconds and an all-electric driving range of up to 218 miles.
• 64kWh (Long Range): 201bhp, 0 to 60mph in 7.7 seconds and an all-electric driving range of up to 281 miles.
• 64kWh (XPower): 429bhp, 0 to 60mph in 3.7 seconds and an all-electric driving range of up to 239 miles.
• 77kWh (Extended Range): 241bhp, 0 to 60mph in 6.1 seconds and an all-electric driving range of up to 323 miles.

Entry-level 51kWh models are a great choice if you're looking to enter the EV market but don't regularly travel further afield. By no means is its range sub-standard though, as it still offers a respectable 218 miles before needing a recharge.

Those that do require an enhanced driving range will want to work their way up the model line-up depending on daily mileages, while used XPower variants offer the most potent performance and a handy all-wheel drive system for trickier conditions.

All MG4 EV models come with an automatic gearbox and zero emissions driving as standard, making them ideal for a wide variety of lifestyles.

Practicality

While the MG4 EV offers much sharper styling than many of its competitors, it's still one of the more practical vehicles in its class.

Despite its low roofline, there's plenty of interior room for both driver and passengers. With no transmission tunnel to contend with, sitting in the middle of the rear seats is more comfortable than what many traditionally-powered alternatives have to offer.

Boot space stands at 363 litres with all seats in place. While this isn't the largest in its class (you'll want to look at the Renault Megane E-Tech for that), it's still a well-sized space that can carry its fair share of cargo. If you do require extra space, the rear seats fold in a 60:40 split to unlock a total of 1,177 litres.

While it's fairly uncommon for electric hatchbacks of this nature to be rated to tow, the MG4 EV is, offering up to 500kg of unbraked towing capacity, should you ever need to transport additional equipment. There's no handy 'frunk' where a traditional engine would live, though.

Safety

As one of MG's most advanced models, it will come as no surprise to learn that the MG4 EV earnt a full five-star safety rating when it underwent the rigorous Euro NCAP safety test back in 2022.

This score was achieved in part due to the intelligent MG Pilot system, which comes as standard on all used models. This safety package includes the likes of active emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist - features that are often optional extras on competitor's models. High-specced used models will offer even more safety features including lane change assist and rear cross-traffic alert.

All of this tech, combined with the advanced Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) on which the MG4 EV is built, led to strong safety scores across the board including 83% and 80% scores for adult and child occupant protection respectively.

Technology

Despite their affordable price tags, used MG models have built up a reputation for providing buyers with plenty of technology, and the MG4 EV fits this mould.

The range starts with used entry-level 'SE' variants which come well-equipped as is, with tech such as a 10.25-inch colour infotainment system, vehicle-to-load charging (a system that allows you to power electrical appliances) and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility coming as standard.

Opting for a higher-specced used 'Trophy' model will see you benefit from additional equipment such as satellite navigation, iSMART live services and heated front seats to enhance your overall experience.

If performance is your priority then 'XPower' variants will appeal, coming with launch control, track mode display and Alcantara upholstery amongst other sports-oriented features.
