Inspired by the historic 595 model (first unveiled in 1963), Abarth decided that it was time to debut a sporty hot hatch with a similar design in 2012. While the exterior styling was nearly identical to that of the 500 models, it was given some special touches to increase the aerodynamics. There were more than 1.5 million units sold before its first refresh in 2016. Another update occurred in 2021, keeping the lineup fresh and relevant even though it's still in the first generation.

Engines and transmissions
All Abarth 595 models have a petrol engine and front-wheel drive, but there's the option of a manual or an automatic gearbox.
Petrol- 1.4L Turbo T-Jet creates 165bhp or it can produce up to 180bhp in tuned models, offering a 0-62mph time of just 6.7 seconds.
- Fuel economy on the lower-output engine reaches up to 42.2mpg on the WLTP cycle with CO2 emissions at 151g/km.
Earlier models included a 140bhp 1.4-litre that has an efficiency rating of around 47mpg, a 145bhp variant with around 41mpg, and a 160bhp variant with up to 48mpg.
Practicality
The Abarth 595 was designed for city driving, so the interior space wasn't a top priority, yet it's still a decent option for two people.
Interior space- Tall adults can easily get comfortable in the adjustable front two seats.
- Two rear seats must be accessed through the front doors.
- ISOFIX mounting points are hidden behind padding, but there's not enough room for bulky child seats.
- 185-litre boot holds one large suitcase or some smaller bags.
- 50:50 rear split folding seats make room for larger items, with a capacity of up to 550 litres.
- 595 has a fixed roof and a three-door design.
595C has a convertible top for an open-air experience.
Safety
- No Euro NCAP rating given to the Abarth 595.
- Standard kit includes several airbags for protection.
Technology
- 5.0-inch touchscreen display works with Bluetooth, DAB digital radio and a USB input.
- Available satnav system works with the upgraded 7.0-inch display.
- Premium Beats stereo is available on select models for better sound quality.

Used Abarth 595 FAQ's
Which is the most popular engine in the Abarth 595?
All Abarth 595 models use the same 1.4-litre T-Jet engine. However, the output can differ, with some models generating between 140bhp and 180bhp.
Which are the most popular model variants?
Abarth has offered the 595 in several model variants, such as the base, Turismo and Competizione. Among used models, the Competizione has been the most popular with standard carbon-fibre bucket seats, a limited-slip differential and larger brakes.
What optional extras should I look out for?
Several comfort features have been available, such as automatic climate control that ensures maximum comfort in all temperatures. Customers should also look out for the available leather seats and a Beats sound system with six speakers.
Is the Abarth 595 a good family car?
As a three-door city car, the Abarth 595 isn't designed to hold a large family. However, two adults can fit comfortably in the front and the rear can hold up to two children. There are also ISOFIX mounting points for installing baby seats.
Is there a hybrid version of the Abarth 595?
With a heavy focus on performance, Abarth hasn't released any hybrid technology for the 595 lineup yet. For now, the highest efficiency rating from the lineup is the earlier 160bhp variant that achieved up to 48mpg.
Is the Abarth 595 available as an automatic?
Yes, but the automatics can be difficult to find. Most of the used Abarth 595 models come equipped with a manual gearbox instead.
Is there a four-wheel drive version available?
As a small city car, Abarth has only made the 595 with a front-wheel drive configuration. Adding four-wheel drive would be unnecessary, lead to a significant weight gain and add to the cost.
