Fiat 500 generations

Fiat 500e, Electric car, Parked

The original 500 nameplate dates back to the 1930s but was revived in 2007. Even though it's technically in its third generation now, the previous models were discontinued in 1975, so there's no comparison between the two. The latest generation includes an all-electric variant, known as the 500e.

Today's 500s have come in many variations, with a current hatchback and convertible model available. Fiat has further extended the lineup with a 500L MPV and 500X SUV.

Third Generation (2020 to Present)

After 8 highly successful years on sale, the 500 underwent extensive revisions. The Uconnect multimedia infotainment system was brought in line with modern tech, and more safety kit was added. The dashboard looked very different overall, in fact, and Bluetooth, DAB sat nav and smartphone integration was included as standard on top-of-the-range Lounge models.

The exterior design remained extremely recognisable from before, but with re-shaped fog lights and redesigned headlamps, plus LED daytime running lights. The front end was also revised in with a new grille design and tweaked bumper/air intake. A revised taillight and chrome bumper trim at the rear completed the styling changes.

Second Generation (2008 to 2020)

The Fiat 500 was reborn after a more than 30 year absence from the market. Its retro design was based on the original 500, but was brought bang in line with modern trends. It struck a huge chord with buyers all over Europe, including here in the UK, where it was immediately extremely popular and has been ever since.
