There’s no doubt it’s rooted in tradition, but the modern day activities are just as important. The Military Tatoo, International Festival and Fringe are just some of the many annual events that take place. From music to visual arts and comedy, the city is always alive and kicking. Sport is also a central occurrence, and the city boasts 2 professional football teams, Hearts and Hibernian, as well as the famous Murrayfield Stadium, the home of Scottish rugby union and Edinburgh RFC.

Further away from the city itself, there’s an almighty amount of countryside to explore by car. It really is a great driving destination because you don’t have to try that hard to lose yourself. A wealth of different terrains keeps things interesting, and venturing into the Highlands from Edinburgh on a mini driving holiday is always a good idea.
