The Audi A3 Saloon was introduced by the manufacturer in 2013 as it wanted to add a mid-range model with both hatchback and coupe elements to its fleet.

There are three engines available: the 1.4L and 1.8L petrol versions and a 2L diesel. Of the three, the larger petrol engine gives the best performance while the diesel combines great fuel economy, offering up nearly 70 mpg coupled with very low emissions. There's also a seven-speed semi-automatic gearbox and a six-speed manual version to choose from.

In terms of ride, the A3 is a real winner too, being quiet, comfortable and refined with plenty of room to seat four passengers.

The boot offers generous storage space and benefits from a relatively wide opening too - so larger items you might struggle to fit in some saloon's boots shouldn't be a problem with the A3.
