If you're in the market for a car that is styled like a coupé but is as practical as an SUV, then a used BMW X6 is a great choice. It has strong engine options, and a refined look. Perfectly matched with the rest of the BMW SUV lineup, the X6 is enjoyable to drive and has a number of high-end features.
BMW offers the new X6 with both petrol and diesel engine options, a standard automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.

Interior spaceBMW refers to the X6 as a 'Sports Activity Coupé' because it mixes the coupé body with the stance of an SUV. It was first unveiled and added to the BMW SUV lineup in 2008, making it the third installment after the X3 and X5, both of which were well-received. Now in its third generation, BMW continues to upgrade technological and stylistic features in order to keep it relevant and fresh.
With the launch of the latest generation, BMW settled on a sharper, bolder style with 22-inch rims and front-grille lights. New high-tech features were also added to the interior, including the Live Cockpit Professional, a personal AI assistant and dual 12-inch screens.
By 2023, BMW felt that a refresh was necessary and provided a slight facelift. The new bumper accented the broader lower grille and slim air inlets. The headlights were also redesigned to include V-shaped integrated turn signals and daytime running lights.

Sharing the platform of the X5, the X6 had its own unique shape with a defined headlight design and smaller vertical slats on the grille. The front bumper was made larger and a second grille was added to the bottom that helped cool the engine. The sculptured lines and sloped roofline made it look more like a coupé.
While previous versions only came as a four-seater, BMW upgraded the style to include three rear seats. New technology was also added with a pop-up infotainment screen. Finally, the engine options were refined, ensuring that they were as efficient and powerful as possible.

Following the previous success of the X3 and X5, BMW saw a demand for a sportier SUV design, prompting the company to release the X6 with its coupé-like features. A regular bumper came as standard, but there was also an available lower grille with a rectangular shape, similar to the M Package style. It also contained a trapezoidal air intake with oversized scoops to house the fog lamps. Under the X6 was an underbody plate for a sporty look.
A refresh in 2009 upgraded the engines to meet new Euro5 emission standards, while some 2010 changes included redesigned headlights. BMW also added a new hood that had a power dome for the M and Active Hybrid variants.

The diesel engines are among the most popular, with the xDrive30d offering the better efficiency of the two and the xDrive40d providing more power and faster acceleration.
BMW currently offers the X6 in two trims: M Sport and M. Among used cars, the M Sport is the most popular due to its leather interior, larger alloy wheels and sportier detailing and suspension.
Between the large number of wheel designs and interior materials, it's easy to find a customised used X6. We recommend keeping an eye out for X6s that have the Comfort Plus Pack, featuring four-zone air conditioning and heated seats for both the front and rear.
Yes, five people can fit in the X6, and it has ample boot space. The sloped roofline does cut into the headroom slightly, which is why the X5 may be a better option if you are carrying tall passengers.
BMW hasn't produced a hybrid X6 yet, with both petrol and diesel engines available for now. However, there are some hybrid SUVs from the highly reputable carmaker, such as the X3 and X5. BMW also offers all-electric SUVs that create zero tailpipe emissions.
The BMW X6 was only made with an automatic gearbox. There was never a manual transmission option offered with the petrol or diesel engines.
