If you're in the market for a car that's big on style yet helps you stick to a tight budget, then a used Ford Ka is a great choice. As one of the UK's most popular city cars, the Ka offers spritely performance in town. Featuring economical engines, the Ka also enables you to save money on fuel.
When the Ka+ stopped being sold in the UK, it was available with a petrol powertrain and a five-speed manual transmission. However, during all three generations, both diesel and petrol powertrains were available.
PetrolThe Ka+ offers more functionality than its previous two generations, thanks to the elongated design. The iconic bubble shape of earlier variants offered some practicality too.
Interior spaceFord released the Ka in 1997, making it the most affordable and smallest car in the brand's line-up at the time. Since then, it has been through two generations and was replaced by the Ka+ in 2016. However, this larger, five-door hatchback model only lasted through 2020 in the UK. All three generations brought innovative technology functions at a lower price than many of their competitors, making it an attractive first vehicle for a young driver or urban commuter.
The second-generation Ka was built in partnership with Fiat, alongside the 500, the Chrysler Ypsilon and the Panda. Even though it was a three-door hatchback, it featured plenty of space to hold four adults. It had strategically placed curves and angles, which helped the vehicle look larger than it is, along with a short hood.
A two-tone dashboard gave it a modern appeal and the simple controls kept the cost down. While the car was small and didn't offer a lot of rear space for adults, the rear bench could be folded to create a larger boot.

In 2003, Ford released the SportKa, which had a 1.6-litre petrol motor to create 93bhp. It hit 62mph in less than 10 seconds and featured a wider wheel arch for a more aggressive appearance.
When the Ka was discontinued, it came with one powertrain that could be tuned in two different ways. The 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine is capable of putting out either 69bhp or 83bhp, yet both variants are rated at 56 mpg in terms of fuel economy.
The Ford Ka+ was offered in two distinct trim levels: Studio and Zetec. The base Studio model received 15-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth and electric front windows, while the more popular Zetec added air conditioning, a 4.2-inch screen and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Earlier models have two doors, making it more difficult to get into the back seat. With the Ford Ka+, back doors were added, so it's easier to install child seats or fit kids in the rear. There's also enough boot space to hold a couple of luggage bags.
Over the years, Ford offered the Ka in either petrol or diesel variants, but never included a hybrid powertrain. Newer Ka+ models only come with a petrol configuration.
