• High-performance R has a 400bhp engine for a 0-60mph time of 5.3 seconds and a top speed of 155mph.

• 206bhp 2.7-litre twin-turbo V6 was included after 2004 and was the most efficient at 40mpg.

• Low-slung seat and adjustable steering column allow for a great driving position.
• Rear seat is spacious, with ISOFIX points available to attach child seats.

• 400-litre boot can hold a suitcase or smaller bags.
• 60:40 split rear seats create more accommodating space when passengers are using them.
• Shallow boot space is wide enough for longer items.

• Euro NCAP didn't test the S-Type so there is no official star rating.
• Standard safety kit includes six airbags, dynamic stability control, emergency brake assist and anti-whiplash seats.

• Centre console has button and dial controls in most models.
• Colour screen is available on high-spec trims with an infotainment system that will now be very outdated.
• Available sat nav system to assist drivers, but will be outdated by modern standards.
