Mazda CX-5 generations
Second Generation (2017 to Present)
Mazda chose not to change the look of the CX-5 to a great extent with the second generation, as the design was clearly resonating well with British buyers. Dynamic steering LED headlamps and foglamps were added, while the rear LED tail lights received a minor refresh.
Inside the cabin, Mazda continued adding up-to-date tech, with the introduction of a new GT Sport Nav+ grade, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity. Over the years, the CX-5 interior cabin has rivalled notable luxury models.

First Generation (2012 to 2017)
Mazda released the CX-5 crossover in 2012, sharing its platform with the Mazda 6. Based on the KODO Soul of Motion language, the first model had a unique design with swept-back headlights, a wide grille and sculpted bodywork. The interior was meant to be simple and minimalistic.
A 2014 refresh changed some of the original concepts. New wheel designs were added and some models received LED bulbs. Interior changes included available aluminium trim and an upgraded infotainment system.

Used Mazda CX-5 FAQ's
What is Mazda SKYACTIV technology?
Mazda uses the name 'SKYACTIV' to designate its automobile technologies designed to increase engine output and fuel efficiency. This technology first appeared in Mazda vehicles back in 2011.
What are the most popular trim levels?
Mazda offers the CX-5 in several trims, with the Centre-Line as the current base model. Base trims are a great choice when it comes to value for money, but they tend to have minimal features. While the Takumi has the most to offer feature-wise, most people choose the Sport Nav for its enhanced exterior appearance and standard-fit satellite navigation.
What optional extras should I look out for?
Keep an eye out for models featuring Nappa leather, heated and ventilated seats. There are also enhanced safety features, such as driver attention alert and a 360-degree view Park Monitor that helps with getting in and out of tight spots.
Is the Mazda CX-5 a good family car?
Yes, the CX-5 has peppy powertrains for an enjoyable drive, and also features a practical and spacious interior that can fit a family comfortably. The seats are supportive and there's lots of tech equipment to enhance the travel experience.
Is there a hybrid version of the Mazda CX-5?
While Mazda hasn't made a hybrid model of the CX-5 yet, one is expected in the future.
Is there a four-wheel drive version available?
Yes, there are plenty of four-wheel drive examples of the Mazda CX-5 on the used market. However, the front-wheel drive model is far more readily available, and cheaper to buy.
