About the Skoda Karoq

Engines and transmissions

There are petrol and diesel engines to choose from with the newest lineup, along with a 6-speed manual or DSG automatic transmission and two- or four-wheel drive.

Petrol
  • 1.0-litre TSI engine produces 108bhp with a combined consumption rating up to 48.6mpg.
  • 1.5-litre TSI outputs 147bhp with a rating of up to 45.9mpg with the DSG automatic transmission.
  • Sportline range includes a 2.0-litre TSI petrol model that hits 187bhp and up to 35.3mpg.
Diesel
  • 2.0-litre TDI outputs 114bhp for a rating of 59.4mpg.
  • CO2 emissions rated at 125g/km.
  • Sportline range also offers a 2.0-litre TDi diesel model that hits 187bhp, with better fuel economy than the 2.0-litre petrol variant of up to 42.2mpg.

Practicality

Because of the higher seating position, the Karoq is a good alternative to an estate car or family hatchback. It's nimble enough for the city, yet spacious enough for family life.

Interior space
  • Adjustable seat height with lumbar support creates a comfortable drive.
  • Sport seats available in some trims for a sporty look and feel.
  • Three adults can fit in the roomy rear seats, but it's more comfortable with two.
Boot space
  • 588 litres of space with available Varioflex seating, while the standard lineup has 521 litres.
  • Load cover automatically lifts with tailgate to remove obstacles.
  • Varioflex seating allows rear seats to tumble forward or to be removed completely.

Safety

  • Euro NCAP rating was the full five stars.
  • Adult occupant rating hit 93%.
  • Available Safety Package adds Crew Protect Assist, plus front and rear curtain airbags.

Technology

  • 8-inch digital driver display replaces older analogue gauges.
  • 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system includes sat nav.
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity removes the need for a cable.

Generations

While it was originally going to be a new-generation Yeti, Skoda decided at the last minute to release the brand-new Karoq in 2017. Sharing the mechanical parts with the SEAT Ateca and Volkswagen Tiguan, the Karoq had a squared-off design and angular headlights complemented with a black grille. A 2021 refresh reshaped the exterior and slimmed the headlights. The interior features continue to be updated regularly to ensure that new technology is always used.

Used Skoda Karoq FAQ's

What are TSI and TDI engines?

The VW Group uses TSI (Turbocharged Stratified Injection) and TDI (Turbocharged Direct Injection) engines in its vehicles. The TSI is petrol-powered, while the TDI variants run on diesel.

Which are the most popular trim levels?

It is the mid-range SE L that is proving to be the most popular trim level in the Karoq. The SE is the base trim, with the lowest starting price. Other trim levels, such as the Sportline, provide upgrades to the interior and technology.

What optional extras should I look out for?

Added comfort can be included with the Karoq, so keep an eye out for models with a heated leather steering wheel, heated front seats and microsuede upholstery. There are also enhanced safety features that are worth having, such as parking sensors and traffic sign recognition.

Is the Skoda Karoq a good family car?

Yes, the Karoq comfortably fits three children or even adults in the back seat, providing a comfortable environment for the whole family. There are also ISOFIX mounting points in the back and in the passenger seat to allow for up to three child seats to be fitted at any one time.

Is there a hybrid version of the Skoda Karoq?

Skoda has provided a plug-in hybrid version of the Octavia and Superb, but hasn't released one yet for the Karoq. The carmaker will most likely be adding one to the lineup in the future.

Is the Skoda Karoq available as an automatic?

The newest lineup comes standard with a 6-speed manual transmission. However, there are trim levels that include a direct shift gearbox (DSG) with automatic transmission, allowing for a better driving experience in a congested city.

Is there a four-wheel drive version available?

Yes, Skoda makes the Karoq in front- and four-wheel drive variants. For most people, two-wheel drive is all that's required, but four-wheel drive can provide enhanced capability if heading off-road or while driving on slippery terrain.
