If you're in the market for a car that is good-looking, fun to drive and keeps your motoring costs to a minimum, then a used Toyota C-HR is a great choice. This stylish crossover easily navigates around the city and offers a superb sky view through its glass roof. Toyota has given the C-HR fuel-efficient engines and the latest tech and safety features to offer an enjoyable driving experience.
There are three hybrid powerplants available for the C-HR, two that are self-charging and one plug-in, paired with either a manual or an automatic gearbox and front- or all-wheel drive.

Interior spaceWhen Toyota released the C-HR hybrid-crossover in 2016, it was no surprise to the manufacturer's enthusiasts. As Toyota was a leader in hybrid technology, the C-HR provided more efficient powertrains than its competitors. With some minor changes throughout the first generation, the C-HR recently entered its second generation with even more to offer discerning drivers.
The second-generation C-HR arrived in 2023 with a similar design to the first model, but with slimmer C-shaped LED headlights. A new bumper with a larger grille on the bottom was installed. It also offered available fog lights, depending on the trim.
Inside, Toyota added a large 12.3-inch infotainment system with Entune telematics. Powertrain options were also enhanced, ensuring that they were as efficient as possible, and a plug-in hybrid options was added for the first time.

The CH-R was released to provide a high driving position with the feel of a coupé, which is why the C-HR stands for 'Coupe High Rider'. The initial design was so stylish that very little has changed since. It also features light steering that makes it easy to manoeuvre around town.
A slight refresh in 2020 added some changes to the engines with a plug-in variant arriving. Toyota also included new JBL sound systems to enhance the cabin experience.

The mild-hybrid petrol versions have been the most popular because they've been around longer, particularly the 1.8-litre engine. The plug-in hybrid, released for the second generation C-HR will likely become more popular in the used market in the future as it boasts the top fuel efficiency.
Toyota currently offers the C-HR in five trims: Icon, Design, Excel, GR Sport and Premiere Edition. The mid-range Design is the most popular option with its upgraded features such as an integrated satnav, heated front seats, ambient lighting and keyless entry.
Customers should look out for the unique exterior features that may have been added, including varying wheel designs. There are also some advanced safety features, such as a driver monitoring system and automatic high-beam headlights.
The C-HR offers good space for a crossover and can be a good option for smaller families. There's enough room in the rear seat for taller adults, and the boot space is accommodating for a few suitcases. It's worth noting that the placement of the rear door handles makes it difficult for kids to open the back doors.
All newer models of the C-HR contain hybrid technology. Two of the powerplants are self-charging full hybrids, but there's also a plug-in hybrid variant on the latest generation that provides up to 41 miles of electric-only driving.
Yes, the C-HR has been offered with an automatic gearbox, as well as a manual. On the used car market, it's much more difficult to find the manual versions than the automatic, simply because all of the hybrid versions - which are by the most popular - came with an automatic gearbox.
Four-wheel drive has been offered with the Toyota C-HR, but it's not nearly as popular as the front-wheel drive version. This configuration was only available with the 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine.
