If you're in the market for a car that is spacious enough to hold seven people and can also handle off-roading with ease, then a used Land Rover Discovery 4 is a great choice. The fourth-generation Discovery has a high-quality interior with a multitude of high-end features. Even though it's built to cope with rugged terrain, it offers a smooth and comfortable driving experience on the road, too.
Land Rover only ever offered the Discovery 4 with diesel engines in the UK, a manual or an automatic gearbox, and standard four-wheel drive.
DieselThere were few SUVs as practical as the Land Rover Discovery 4, with its large cabin, 7 seats and big boot.
Interior spaceThe newer 3.0-litre diesel powertrains were among the most popular. Not many of the smaller 2.7-litre models were sold, and are generally less desirable anyway, with the 3.0-litre providing more power and a similar level of efficiency.
Land Rover made the Discovery 4 in three trims: GS, XS and HSE. The HSE has proven the most popular with this trim offering the most features, including leather upholstery and a Harman Kardon sound system.
Customers should look out for an electric sunroof, which can add more style and lighting to the interior, while there are various upgraded wheel designs that give the Land Rover Discovery 4 a new look. Added safety features, such as parking sensors, are also beneficial.
The Discovery 4 is one of the best family cars in terms of interior space. Adults can fit easily in any spot. There's also a decent-sized boot for carrying cargo and a substantial tow limit for pulling a trailer behind the SUV.
The Discovery 4 wasn't created with a hybrid powertrain. The fifth-generation Discovery does come with a mild-hybrid configuration for more efficiency.
Most Discovery 4 SUVs have a standard automatic gearbox included. The only engine that was available with a manual gearbox was the 2.7-litre, which wasn't popular, so it's much more difficult to find on the used market.
All Discovery 4 SUVs come standard with four-wheel drive. Land Rover installed this advanced system to ensure that the Discovery 4 could navigate off-road as well as it does on roads.
