If you're in the market for a stylish coupé that's efficient and great to drive, then a used Volkswagen Scirocco is a great choice. With a range of different engine options and superb handling, the Scirocco provides a refined yet fun driving experience. The car looks sporty enough to turn heads, while the cabin is filled with the latest tech features.
The modern VW Scirocco came with several engines, both petrol and diesel. It could be found with a manual or an automatic gearbox and standard front-wheel drive.
PetrolFew people buy this coupé with four seats for its practicality, yet it does have a decent amount of space considering its size.
Interior spaceThe modern Volkswagen Scirocco was brought back to life as a three-door hatchback in 2008, built on the same platform as the fifth-generation Golf. Yet this was actually the third generation of the Scirocco, as it was originally created in 1974. This original design remained in production until 1992, when the company took it out of the range temporarily. However, the newer Scirocco didn't last more than another generation, with the coupé version discontinued in 2018.
It had been 34 years since the original model debuted when VW decided to bring back the Scirocco as a stylish two-door coupé. With improved driving dynamics and a sportier shape, it became an instant success. Based on the Golf platform, the Scirocco had a slim grille, narrow headlights and a big bumper. The larger spoiler contained a wide air intake for better cooling.
A 2014 update brought new LED strips for the headlights and a restyled bumper that contained fog lights. The rear of the hatch now had a small line placed over the tailgate and the overall taillight design was topped with LEDs.

Among used models, there are equal amounts of petrol and diesel engines available. Overall, drivers seem more interested in the higher-powered options, such as the 2.0-litre petrol or diesel motors, as these offer the fastest acceleration times.
Throughout the years, Volkswagen has offered a variety of trim levels, such as the GT, R-Line, GTS and R. The GT is among the most popular, with larger 18-inch alloys, rear tinted windows and upgraded satnav being well-liked features.
Unique styling can be found because of all the customisable upgrades, so look out for larger 19-inch wheels and tinted rear windows. There's also dual-zone climate control for a more comfortable interior and a touchscreen display that has a built-in sat nav. Front and rear parking sensors are beneficial for navigating into tight spaces.
Even though it has a smaller footprint and a sporty appearance, the VW Scirocco can also be a good family car. With comfortable rear seats that have ISOFIX points and a decent-sized boot for the segment, small families would be comfortable.
Volkswagen stopped production of the Scirocco before a hybrid powertrain was offered. There are only petrol and diesel engines available. A plug-in hybrid Golf is currently available with a similar style and size.
Volkswagen made the Scirocco with manual and automatic gearboxes. While the manual is roughly twice as popular, customers shouldn't have trouble finding a used Scirocco with an automatic transmission, just look out for models labeled "DSG".
No, all Volkswagen Scirocco models come standard with front-wheel drive, even the high-powered Scirocco R. Volkswagen did not produce a four-wheel drive model.
