If you're in the market for a car that's efficient, affordable and family-friendly, then a used Ford B-MAX is a great choice. This small MPV comes with a large choice of engines that produce low emissions and offer an enjoyable drive. It has a practical interior layout and clever wide-opening sliding doors that provide a lot of access.
Drivers have an option between a petrol and a diesel engine paired to a manual or an automatic gearbox, but all models have front-wheel drive.
PetrolEven with its smaller size, the B-MAX MPV is practical and spacious enough for a busy family, making it a great option for urban travel.
Interior spaceFord hoped to enter the competitive small MPV market in 2012 with the release of the B-MAX, which shares its base with the Fiesta. While it had a similar style to the Fiesta, the body was taller, making it more practical and agile. After selling nearly 300,000 units during its production, Ford didn't make a second-generation model and chose to discontinue the B-MAX in 2017.

With a wheelbase of 2,489 mm, the B-MAX is not a large car by any means. It has an overall length of 4,077 mm and its width is 1,704 mm. It is taller than you might expect, however, standing at 1,604 mm. This means that the available headroom is good for a car of its class.
When Euro NCAP put the B-MAX through its paces in 2012, it awarded the car with a full five stars. The MPV scored particularly well for the safety of adult passengers and fared only a little worse for child occupant safety. Its lowest rating was for the protection of pedestrians in the event of a collision.
The sliding doors of the B-MAX mean that access is easy, even when you are in a parking spot that prevents the tailgate from opening. Just drop the seats to access the 318-litre boot at the back. The boot can be raised so it matches the height of the tailgate lip, which also makes loading and unloading from the rear a breeze.
The B-MAX did not win many awards. However, its use of the then-new Ford 1-litre l3 EcoBoost petrol engine when it first came out garnered a lot of praise. This technology meant the engine won the prestigious 'International Engine of the Year' award in 2012. It has a start and stop function and offers direct fuel injection.
As mentioned, there is a 1-litre EcoBoost petrol-driven engine as well as two Duratec petrol-powered options, a 4-litre and a 6-litre. Diesel versions come in two varieties: A 5-litre Duratorq and a 6-litre Duratorq.
An entry-level Ford B-MAX is likely to occupy insurance group 7 in the UK, which means it is affordable for most motorists to insure. Many editions are in groups 8 through to 14 and only the highest car specification trims are as high as group 16. Most Titaniums on the road will be in groups 13 or 14, however.
