If you're in the market for a car that's practical, compact and cheap, then a used Dacia Sandero is a great choice. The Sandero is an affordable small hatchback that's ideal for navigating tight spaces and for carrying a family. These models hold their value well and don't cost a lot to run, providing excellent value for owners.
As with the larger version, the Sandero Stepway, Dacia offered several powertrain options to choose from, such as petrol, diesel and LPG. These pair to either an automatic or a manual gearbox and front-wheel drive.

The Dacia Sandero was first released into the UK in 2012. At that time, we received both the city car version of the hatchback and the larger Stepway model. In total, the Sandero has been through three generations and several updates, ensuring that the lineup remains value-centred but also provides enough kit for the money.
Both the Sandero and Sandero Stepway entered a new generation in 2020. While the hatchback shared a platform with the Logan, it had a unique style. LED daytime running lights formed a Y shape, while the 3D mesh hexagonal grill was meant to make the car look wider. In the rear, only minimal changes were made with the new generation.
As a first for the lineup, Dacia released a factory sunroof option. There were also some smart upgrades made to the interior, such as an available satnav system and wireless connectivity provided through Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Finally, the wheelbase was extended, resulting in more rear-seat legroom for passengers.

With the release of the second-generation Sandero, the models began to arrive in the UK. While it was based on the Logan saloon, many of the parts and engines were shared with the Clio. The large, extended headlights made the vehicle look like it was smiling. Its hatchback style was perfected with unique sculptured lines.
In 2016, it was time for a mild facelift. The new appearance was more modern with slimmer headlights integrated into the grille and a bold-looking lower air intake. There were still minimal features in the standard kit, ensuring that drivers had access to a low-cost vehicle.

Petrol engines are by far the most popular choice found among used Sandero models. These offer a low purchase price and reasonable running costs.
The Sandero is now available in three models: Essential, Expression and Journey. Of these three, the Essential is the most popular because it's the cheapest, but it still includes Bluetooth, cruise control and manual air conditioning in the standard kit.
Customers should look out for the 8.0-inch infotainment system, which is a big upgrade from the base models that only have a traditional radio. Automatic air conditioning can provide more comfort, while front and rear parking sensors are a good option for those who do a lot of parking in the city.
As a small hatchback, the Sandero was built to be nimble and easy to drive through cities. Still, Dacia ensured that there was enough interior space for a family, with room for up to three teenagers in the back seat. With the ISOFIX mounts and ample boot space, the Sandero would make a good option for families on a budget.
