Tesla Model S debuted in 2012 but arrived in the UK in 2014 as a game-changer. The car's appearance was anything but outlandish, which is not surprising for an American outfit. However, regardless of the version you opt for, you will find its performance as addictive as it is practical. Tesla Model S is also a fast car with the base power option, the 75D, capable of getting to 62 mph from a standstill in 4.2 seconds and a 140 mph top speed. When you opt for the 100D, also known as the Performance trim in new models, you get an acceleration of 2.5 seconds and 155 mph top speed.
The early versions of Tesla Model S were differentiated using their battery variation with the older versions classified as 60, 85, P85 and P85+, before Tesla moved to the more powerful 75D, 100D and P100D range. Since 2019, Model S is only available in 2 trims, Long Range and Performance. The standard features in these later versions are:

The 2019 and later Tesla Model S versions offer dog lovers something useful with the Dog Mod feature. When activated, it maintains the car's temperature when parked to keep your pets, especially dogs, adequately warmed up. Even though it is primarily a safety and security feature, it has an external digital display showing passers-by how cool your ride is, literally.

Although classified as a saloon, the Tesla Model S is a hatchback with a colossal tailgate that reveals 774 litres of luggage space when open. The back seats also come with a 60:40 split feature as a standard, which increases the boot space to an overwhelming 1,645 litres when you fold the back seats. Additionally, there is a 150-litre space at the front, a moderately sized glove box, flat storage between the seats and cupholders under the front armrest.
In older Model S cars, the battery variations were signified by numbers 60, 85, P85 and P85+ before Tesla changed them to 75D, 100D and P100D. The numbers indicate the battery capacity, with 60 implying 60kWh, while P and D show that the battery comes with a high-performance drive inverter. Tesla stopped the naming system in 2019 and newer versions, and you have to read the specifications to be certain.
While Tesla promises 300+ miles in its latest models, the mile range varies depending on the battery variation. The carmaker claimed that the 75D, 100D and P100D could deliver 304 miles, 393 miles and 381 miles, respectively, and pre-2016 models delivered between 200-250 miles between charges.
Tesla Model S is not the vehicle to go for if cutting motoring costs is a top priority due to its high price and maintenance costs. However, the cost of charging the battery, which is a major headache with EVs, is taken care of for Tesla models. The Tesla Superchargers are available for all Model S and cars. All Model S produced after 2019 have free unlimited access, but you have to confirm as Tesla's policies change frequently.
Euro NCAP tested the Model S's debut model and awarded it for high crash test scores, with the car achieving 82% and 77% in adult and child occupant protection, respectively. The car also scored 71% for driver-assist features, including collision avoidance and autonomous emergency braking, 6-airbags and 3-position dynamic LED turning lights. Other safety kits include daytime running lights, washer heaters and 2 second-row Isofix attachments for children.
