The Car Traders
A compact sports utility vehicle, or SUV, the Ford Kuga has been manufactured on Ford's C1 platform since 2008. Used versions of it are available in both front-wheel and four-wheel driving arrangements. There have been three generations of the car thus far, all with the same basic body style, a five-door hatchback. Although it was launched with an entry-level trim version in Europe, in the UK market, the car was only initially offered with high-end Zetec and Titanium specifications. The Kuga uses the same basic design platform as the Ford Focus and C-Max models. Its first generation went out of production in 2012 with the second generation lasting for a further 7 years. The third generation of the Ford Kuga went on sale in the UK in late 2019, based upon the updated Ford C2 platform. This version of the car came with two transmission options, a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic. The latest iteration of the car has a noticeably sleeker design, which offers improved performance, largely because it is lighter in weight than either of the two previous generations. In 2017, Ford recalled over half a million Kugas due to an issue with the car's door latches but this problem now appears to be resolved.

The latest version of the Kuga has a flexible rear seating configuration that can provide up to 1,530 litres of storage capacity when the seats are down. The largest storage configuration came with the second generation, which slightly exceeded this. With the seats up, an Mk II version offers 456 litres of storage space.
A petrol-powered 2.0-litre EcoBoost turbo I4, 242 PS version of the Kuga, which was offered with 4x4 models, could produce up to 239 hp of power. A typical 2.0-litre diesel version or a 1.6-litre petrol Kuga of the second generation will offer 148 hp at its peak.
The latest version of the Ford Kuga comes with five different engine types. There are 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre petrol-driven engines, plus a 2.0-litre Duratorq I4-T diesel engine. The others are a 2.5-litre I4 hybrid and a plug-in hybrid variant.
The third generation of the Kuga has earned a 5-star safety rating following its tests with Euro NCAP. The car will, for example, constantly monitor the road for you to keep an eye out for pedestrians and other hazards, applying the brake on an emergency basis automatically when it is appropriate to do so. This system is not available with older models, however.
Only the third generation of Ford Kugas offer this. The second generation of the car only had diesel and petrol-driven engines with four variants of each. A first-generation Kuga will either be a 2.5-litre petrol version or have a 2.0-litre diesel engine.
The cost of insuring a Ford Kuga will come down to your age, prior claims and where you reside. However, most Kugas are reasonable to insure compared with other SUVs. Most editions of the car are in insurance groups 11 to 22. A top-of-the-range model could be as high as group 40, however.
The Ford Kuga has proven itself to be an incredibly popular model in the UK market. Buying a used one should mean being able to sell it on down the line since it is the sixth most popular model of car on British roads.
