Engines and transmissions

There were a variety of engine options with a used Astra GTC, with Vauxhall offering both petrol and diesel configurations, with a manual or automatic gearbox and standard front-wheel drive.

Petrol

1.4-litre turbo outputs either 118bhp or 138bhp, offering a 0-62 mph time of 9.0 seconds, depending on the trim.
1.6-litre turbo produces 177bhp, getting the car to 60mph in 8.0 seconds, with improved overtaking ability.
From 2014 onwards, the 1.6-litre engine increased output to 197bhp, making it the fastest non-VXR model from the Astra range.
Astra GTC VXR model featured a 2.0-litre engine that generates 276bhp with a 5.8-second 0-60mph time.

Diesel

1.6-litre generates between 108 and 134bhp, depending on the trim.
1.7-litre diesel has two outputs: 108 or 128bhp, with fuel efficiency up to 68mpg.
2.0-litre generates 162bhp with a fuel economy rating of around 58mpg.
Bi-Turbo 2.0-litre produces 192bhp with a 0-60mph time of 7.7 seconds.

Practicality

The Vauxhall Astra GTC is more practical than it looks, offering plenty of space for adults and a decent boot while remaining nimble and fun to drive.

Interior space

Two adults fit comfortably in the front seats.
Back seats hold adults, but sloping roof cuts slightly into headroom.
ISOFIX points can be used to secure child seats.

Boot space

380-litre boot is the one of the largest, even bigger than the VW Scirocco and Renault Megane Coupe.
With the back seats down, there's 1,165 litres of space, also beating the previous two models.
Boot includes a mechanism allowing it to be opened by touching the badge on the tailgate.

Safety

Euro NCAP gave the Astra GTC a five-star rating.
Adult occupant rating is 91%, among the highest in the segment.
Standard safety kit includes dual front seatbelt pretensioners, ABS, electronic brake force distribution and emergency brake assist.

Technology

Modern infotainment system sits in the centre of the dash.
Connectivity provided by Bluetooth, making it easier to use devices for maps and music.
DAB radio comes standard among Astra GTC models.
