If you're in the market for a used car that's refined, stylish and affordable to buy, then a used Renault Megane is a great choice. This family car has a head-turning exterior appearance, plenty of useful technology and a comfortable cabin. It's a lot of fun to drive, and efficient powertrains are also available that are cheap to run.
Over its long lifespan, Renault built the Megane with petrol and diesel engines, a manual or an automatic transmission, and standard front-wheel drive.

Interior spaceRenault released the Megane in 1996, with it taking the place of the Renault 19, even though it shared many of the same underpinnings. It didn't take long before the hatchback earned the title of European Car of the Year (2003), mainly because of its high safety rating and stylish appearance. After many revisions and four generations, Renault decided to discontinue the Megane in 2022 to focus on the E-Tech 100% electric model.

When the new models arrived for a fourth generation, they featured a whole new design. Taller headlights were complemented by C-shaped signature daytime running lights cutting into the bumper. Below that, a grille was added to cool the engine, while the side scoops were fitted for the available fog lamps.
A 2020 update gave the Megane RS models new powertrain options, updated exhaust vents in the front, and redesigned alloy wheels. New black door mirror caps and some uniquely sculptured lines set the lineup apart from the other models.

Even though there were now several bodystyles available for the Megane, the five-door hatchback became the most popular overall. It featured a strong safety rating and was perfect for families. Angular shapes were employed for the body, and the tailgate was given a curved back window to give the car an extended look.
A facelift of the models occurred in 2006, along with the release of the GT. This sportier option included integrated fog lights and a broader grille. There were also now two exhausts coming out of the rear bumper.

The diesel engines have been the most popular, likely because they are cheaper to run. Renault supplied diesel engines -badged as dCi- that provide an efficiency rating of above 70mpg.
There have been several models available, such as Expression+, Dynamique Nav, GT Line, GT Nav, Iconic, RS Line and RS. The most popular among used models is the Dynamique Tom Tom with its standard rear parking sensors, driving mode selector and sat nav.
