If you're in the market for a hatchback or estate that's stylish, affordable and has lots of standard equipment, then a used SEAT Leon is a great choice. The Leon was one of the first SEAT models to be built, and it features sporty and sleek styling. The strong engines pair with dynamic handling for a fun and enjoyable driving experience.
Over the years, a large number of variations have been available for the Leon. Diesel, petrol and hybrid engines have been paired with either a manual or an automatic transmission, and front or all-wheel drive.

Interior spaceSEAT first introduced the Leon in 2000 as a mix between a hatchback and a coupé. It was the first vehicle to come out of the partnership created with Volkswagen, built on the fourth-generation Golf. With the Leon now in its fourth generation, there have been several styling upgrades and many features added to make it competitive in today's market.
Based on the same platform as the Volkswagen Golf, Audi A3 and Skoda Octavia, the Mk IV Leon arrived with bolder exterior styling. It had an angular front end with a distinctive pattern on the grille with grey satin surrounding it. This was topped with LED headlights and triangle-shaped daytime running lights. The sloped roofline and raked-forward tailgate accented the roof spoiler, while fake exhausts added to the sporty look.
Inside the cabin, SEAT used many of the same tech features as the Golf, including the touchscreen multimedia display. The powertrain lineup was also revised, ensuring that it was as powerful and efficient as possible.

With a new designer in charge of the Leon, the third generation included angular headlights with claw-like LED daytime running lights. A second grille was added to mirror the one above it, while sculptured doors gave the vehicle a more dynamic appeal.
For the interior, SEAT offered plastic trim to keep the price down or optional Alcantara and leather upholsteries for more luxury. An analogue instrument cluster featured two dials combined with a TFT display.

The 1.0 TSI seems to be among the most popular, probably because it's also the cheapest. While it has the lowest output of any engine, there's plenty of power for everyday driving in the city or on the motorway.
Currently, SEAT offers the Leon in four trims: SE, SE Dynamic, FR and FR Sport. The FR trims have been popular due to their unique sporty styling and upgraded tech features. The newest lineup includes wireless phone charging, the larger colour touchscreen with navigation, and three-zone climate control for complete comfort.
The Leon has been available with so many different engines, wheel designs and colours that it's difficult to find two that are exactly the same. With so much customisation, you should be able to find what you want in the used market. However, we recommend looking for enhanced safety features for more protection and a leather interior for that little bit of extra luxury.
Yes, there's enough room for five adults to fit comfortably, with even the middle back seat relatively comfortable for short journeys. While there is slightly less boot space than some competitors, SEAT has prioritised rear legroom.
SEAT did release the 1.4 plug-in hybrid powertrain, which creates 201bhp. On a single charge, it provides a maximum electric-only driving range of up to 40 miles, which allows for short daily commutes without using any petrol, before switching to petrol/electric hybrid power.
Yes, there have been both manual and automatic gearboxes supplied with the SEAT Leon. However, more manual Leon models have been made than automatic.
SEAT did provide four-wheel drive with the Cupra-branded lineup. The general Leon models only come with front-wheel drive though. It can be difficult to find a Leon with all-wheel drive, and it will require more searching in the used market.
