If you're in the market for a car that is compact enough for city travel and has a head-turning look, then a used Peugeot 208 is a great choice. With various bodystyles and engine configurations available, there's a 208 to suit everyone's requirements. Not only are these superminis economical, but Peugeot has also done a great job of keeping them up to date with the latest tech features.
Over the years, the Peugeot 208 has been available with hybrid, petrol and diesel options, with the e-208 marketed as the electric option. These engines include manual or automatic gearboxes with standard front-wheel drive.
PetrolWith comfortable front seats, the 208 is a great option for city driving. It's nimble and practical because of its economical design.
Interior spaceThe 208 arrived in the UK 2012. It followed in the footsteps of its predecessors, the 207 and 206. With the previous variant becoming dated, the new supermini took over and became an instant success with its fresh design and upmarket interior. This model is still in production today, and is currently in its second generation, with a fully electric model now firmly part of the lineup.
While the second-generation 208 followed the path of the previous models, this version is more stylish, premium and is higher quality overall. It has an upmarket feel, with the incredibly nice interior playing a big part in that. It's no wonder that it's a former European Car of the Year winner.
For this lineup, Peugeot dropped the previously available three-door hatchback, leaving only a five-door model. The carmaker also introduced an electric version with a different model name, the e-208.

Available as a three- or five-door hatchback, the first generation 208 was stylish and designed to stand out in a competitive segment. Peugeot didn't create this lineup with a convertible or an estate, as it did the 207, but enthusiasts didn't seem upset about it. However, most of the engine options did carry over, and a few more were added during the years.
A facelift arrived in 2015, even though the 208 didn't need many changes. The appearance was altered slightly, and Peugeot released the exciting GT Line trim. This model sat at the top of the range, offering more power for an exhilarating drive.

The 1.2-litre petrol engine has been the most popular, offering three different outputs over the years. The 75bhp model is the most efficient of the three, while the 129bhp provides a faster acceleration time and a better motorway driving experience.
Currently, the Peugeot 208 is available in three trims: Active, Allure and GT. Allure models have been among the most popular, likely because they offer a good midway point between the base model Active and the top spec GT, with leather-trimmed upholstery, diamond-cut 16-inch alloy wheels, gloss black exterior detailing and additional interior USB ports.
The upgraded 10-inch infotainment display with a built-in satnav is among the top features to look for. You should also keep an eye out for examples fitted with the 180-degree camera system that allows for better visibility and increased driving confidence, along with other safety features such as parking sensors and blind spot monitoring.
The 208 is ideal for families with small children. There's adequate boot space and ISOFIX points are included for securing child seats. Once children get older and taller, it might be time to upgrade to a larger Peugeot model.
Yes, there are several hybrid configurations that pair electric motors with a petrol engine to output either 98bhp or 134bhp. Peugeot also recently released the e-208, which is an electric version of the same hatchback, creating zero tailpipe emissions.
An automatic has been available with some of the 208 engines, but it's not the most popular option. It would be a lot easier to find a Peugeot 208 with a manual transmission, and the cost will likely be lower. All fully electric e-208 models are automatic, too.
