As a large 4x4 SUV, it was well-equipped for big families, but could always use more refinement. Interior upgrades included available 10-way power seat adjustments, creating a better positioning. Road visibility was improved, thanks to the large windscreen.

For the third-generation Sorento, Kia increased the amount of high-strength steel used in the build, making it stronger and safer overall. It became a top contender against the Volvo XC90 and the Land Rover Discovery.
A 2017 refresh didn't change the style dramatically. Instead, Kia worked on fine-tuning what was already working. Top-of-the-range models were fitted with premium Nappa leather and high-end materials for a luxury feel.

After the success of the original Kia Sorento, the designers worked to make the SUV more desirable. The goal was to create an upscale vehicle without the luxury price. A new grille showed off the tiger-nose design, while the headlights were built in a sharp and angular style.
