Powertrains

To cater for differing lifestyles, there is a range of powertrains available on used Vauxhall Crossland X examples. The most common powertrains include:

  • 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol: available with up to 128bhp, 0 to 60mph in as little as 9.3 seconds and up to 47mpg combined.
  • 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel: available with up to 101bhp, 0 to 60mph in as little as 11.0 seconds and up to 60mpg combined.

Both the petrol and diesel powertrains are available with staggered levels of performance as well as a choice between a manual or automatic gearbox. The best choice for those who do the bulk of their driving in city centres and urban areas will be a petrol example, while those completing over 12,000 miles a year on motorways will find a diesel example the more cost-effective option.

There's a non-turbocharged petrol variant available too, but it's not the favoured choice for many. It will be cheaper to insure though, thanks to its less powerful output.

Unfortunately, there's no four-wheel drive variant available - all Crossland X variants come with front-wheel drive only.

Practicality

Despite having fairly compact dimensions, the Crossland X does a good job of utilising the space it has available. The interior space is pretty generous, with plenty of interior space for four adults - fitting five adults in is possible, although the middle passenger will struggle to find comfort on long journeys.

With 410 litres available, the Crossland X rivals cars from the class above in terms of boot space, while there are additional features such as roof rails and rear sliding seats on some examples to enhance practicality further. For times when you need maximum space, you're able to drop the rear seats in a 60:40 split and make the most of a larger space.

A braked towing capacity of up to 870kg also means that you're able to tow the likes of trailers or bicycle carriers with ease. If you plan on towing heavier loads, such as a caravan, then we'd recommend looking at more capable vehicles such as the Skoda Kamiq.

Safety

Keeping you well protected in the case of an accident, the Vauxhall Crossland X received a full five-star safety score when it underwent rigorous testing as part of Euro NCAP's safety test, scoring well for adult (85%) and child (84%) occupant protection.

Standard safety equipment includes the likes of an anti-lock braking system, ISOFIX anchor points, hill start assist and LED daytime running lights. If you'd like further active/passive safety equipment, then you'll need to opt for a higher specced version. These may offer features such as rear parking sensors and a safety pack that includes a driver drowsiness system, forward collision alert and automatic emergency braking.

Technology

You'll find various trims to choose from when searching for a used Crossland X, ranging from the entry-level 'SE' to the range-topping 'Ultimate'.

Standard equipment includes the likes of Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, a 7-inch colour touchscreen infotainment system and Bluetooth® connectivity. If your budget allows, we'd recommend considering a higher-specced example as they offer the likes of satellite navigation, a larger infotainment system and heated seats as well as a more premium feel.

Regardless of which model you choose, you can rest assured knowing you've got your money's worth. Vauxhall has done a good job of finding a balance between value and luxury, ensuring the Crossland X is an appealing option in this competitive segment.

Vauxhall Crossland X generations

Produced between 2017 and 2020, the Vauxhall Crossland X has only one generation. While not its official successor, many see the Crossland X as the Mokka X's replacement, offering a more refined experience and improved technology. During its spell in the Vauxhall lineup, it was instantly a hit, resulting in a plethora of fantastic examples now being readily available on the used market.

In 2021, Vauxhall gave the Crossland X a major update, removing the 'X' from its name in the process. The Vauxhall Crossland is technically a facelifted version of the Crossland X, although many consider them as different models entirely so be sure to filter your search to the model you want when browsing online.

Used Vauxhall Crossland X FAQ's

What fuel does the Vauxhall Crossland X use?

You can pick up the Vauxhall Crossland X in either 3-cylinder 2-litre petrol or 4-cylinder 6-litre diesel guise, with the petrol engines offering multiple power levels. The most basic petrol model doesn't have a turbo and isn't particularly nippy. The turbocharged engines are more responsive.

Is the Vauxhall Crossland X available with an automatic gearbox?

Yes, you can choose between 3 gearbox options with the Vauxhall Crossland X, though your choice will depend on which engine type you select. There are 2 manual boxes, one with 5 gears and one with 6. If you'd prefer a car with auto transmission, there's just the 1 choice on offer.

How safe is the Vauxhall Crossland X?

When Euro NCAP tested the car in 2017, the Vauxhall Crossland X got the maximum 5-star score. Ratings for adult and child occupant safety were 85 and 84%, respectively. The version of the car that was tested didn't have the autonomous emergency braking system fitted, but shop around as some models will.

Is the Vauxhall Crossland X roomy enough for a family?

There's a decent amount of space in the Crossland X for 4 adults, but things get a bit tight in the rear seats if 3 adults want to sit there, though legroom is still good. There are plenty of spaces in the cabin to stash small items, and the boot is a reasonable 410 litres with the seats in place.

Is the Vauxhall Crossland X easy to drive?

The Vauxhall Crossland X is well suited for city driving, thanks to light steering and that high seating position making sharp corners and tight parking spaces a breeze. The car's less fun at speed, though, and on the motorway, it's quite a noisy place to be for any length of time.
