  • 3.0 TSI eHybrid creates 375bhp with consumption rated at 126.2mpg and CO2 emissions at 51g/km.
  • R 3.0 TSI eHybrid pushes 455bhp and is efficient at 121mpg and CO2 emissions rated at 53g/km.

  • 281bhp variant of the 3.0 TDI changes fuel consumption to 34.3mpg, while CO2 emissions remain the same.

Practicality

The Volkswagen Touareg has ample space and is perfect for families, although it is only available with 5 seats.

Interior space
  • Range of adjustment options for wheel and driver's seat offers more comfort.
  • Lots of headroom, even with a panoramic sunroof.
  • Holds three rear passengers, or a centre armrest can be folded down.
Boot space
  • 810-litre boot is larger than the Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7 and Mercedes-Benz GLE, but plug-in hybrids have slightly less boot space.
  • Rear seats fold down to access 1,800 litres of storage space.
  • Wide boot opening makes accessing cargo easier.

Safety

  • Perfect five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP in 2018.
  • Adult occupant, child occupant and safety assist ratings are all more than 80%.
  • Standard active bonnet lifts up during a collision to assist with pedestrian safety.

Technology

  • Updated 12-inch digital driver’s display provides crisp, clean graphics.
  • Large 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system is standard in newer models.
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in newer models.

Volkswagen Touareg generations

With its unique, imposing appearance, the Touareg was first released by Volkswagen in 2002. Based on the VW Group platform, which is also used by the Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7, the Touareg has been through three generations, each bringing with it new power options and updated styling features. VW has successfully managed to keep the larger Touareg relevant despite the rise of crossovers.

Third Generation (2018 to 2023)

With the third generation, VW built the Touareg to compete with higher-end models, but at a lower price. LED matrix headlights were added, along with three horizontal chrome bars on the grille. In the cabin, a 15-inch touchscreen and a 12-inch digital cockpit display were installed.

A 2024 refresh added more safety features, such as Park Assist Plus, Night Vision and Trailer Assist. There's also a smart system that uses the roof load sensor to adjust the stability control when carrying heavy gear.

Second Generation (2010 to 2019)

When the second-generation Touareg was shown in 2010, Volkswagen announced it as the biggest technical evolution in the company's history. The shape of the SUV remained the same, but bi-Xenon lights and a restyled bumper made it more dynamic. Available air suspension enabled the car to provide a smoother ride off-road.

A facelift came in 2014 with a new grille and four chrome lines. These lines extended out to the bigger bi-Xenon headlights. The interior offered new leather colours, improved controls and enhanced lighting solutions.
