The Touran was first introduced by Volkswagen in 2003 as part of the MPV segment, coming in at a smaller size than the Sharan. Still in production today, the Touran is now in its third generation and continues to offer practical and affordable seven-seat transport for families.

Volkswagen Touran generations
Second Generation (2015 to Present)
Building on the popularity of the first Touran, the 2010 model was the first of a new generation created with an updated platform and new engine options. While it continued to resemble the Golf, the Touran had angular headlights and a two-slat chromed grille that helped it to stand out.
It also featured a wrap-around bumper with a set of fog lights and a steeper bonnet that gave it a more commanding presence. Volkswagen also added more interior space and a new touchscreen infotainment system to the cabin.

Used Volkswagen Touran FAQ's
Which is the most popular engine in the Volkswagen Touran?
Newer models only come with the 1.5-litre petrol engine, yet on the used market, the diesel configurations still seem to be the most popular. The 1.6-litre TDI has the best economy at 64mpg and is plenty powerful enough for both town and motorway driving.
Which are the most popular trim levels?
The most current lineup includes four trims: SE Family, Match, SEL and R-Line. In used models, the most popular trim has been the SE, which was a step up from the base trim level. It received rear tinted glass and chrome-plated roof rails for a unique appearance.
What optional extras should I look out for?
Even though the Touran is a family vehicle, it can still be outfitted to look sleek and stylish. Customers should look out for larger alloy wheels and a panoramic sunroof for a head-turning design. For family travel, there are models with a DVD entertainment system available.
Is the Volkswagen Touran a good family car?
As an MPV, the Touran was designed with larger families and groups in mind. It has seven seats, three in the second row and two in the third row. It can also be configured to offer a larger boot area with some of the seats folded down.
Are all Tourans seven seaters?
Yes, all VW Tourans sold in the UK came with seven seats as standard.
Is the Volkswagen Touran available as an automatic?
Yes, the Touran does have available automatic gearboxes. There are roughly an equal amount of manual and automatic options available to purchase on the user car market, with the manual gearbox often having a lower price.
Is there a four-wheel drive version available?
No, Volkswagen hasn't made a four-wheel drive Touran. All models come standard with front-wheel drive.
