Engines and transmissions
There were several options between diesel and petrol engines with the C4 Picasso, pairing to a manual or an automatic gearbox and front-wheel drive.
Petrol
- 1.6-litre VTi is rated at 118bhp for a 0-60mph time of 11.9 seconds and an efficiency rating of 44mpg.
- High-powered 1.6-litre variant outputs 162bhp, increases the efficiency to 48mpg and reduces the 0-60mph time to 9.0 seconds.
Diesel
- 1.6-litre HDi outputs 90bhp with a rating of 67mpg and a 0-60mph time of 12.5 seconds.
- Improved 115bhp variant offers faster acceleration and even better fuel efficiency at 74mpg.
- 2.0-litre HDi 150 creates 147bhp with an average efficiency of 66.5mpg.
Practicality
Among five-seaters, the C4 Picasso is as practical as they come with plenty of kit and ample room.
Interior space
- Individual rear seats offer a more spacious feeling.
- Three ISOFIX points are found in the second row for installing child seats.
- Wide-open back doors give quick access to the back of the MPV.
Boot space
- Three individual rear seats can be tilted forward and folded flat to make more boot space.
- Front passenger seat folds flat for hauling longer items.
- Second-generation boot space was increased by 40 litres, for up to 537 litres with the seats folded.
- Boot floor is height adjustable and the top-spec models include an electric tailgate.
Safety
- Euro NCAP gave a perfect five-star rating in 2013.
- Child occupant is 88%, while adult occupant is 86% and safety assist is 81%.
- Available lane departure system and blind spot monitoring increase on-road protection.
Technology
- Large 12.0-inch central dashboard display dominates the cabin.
- Available satnav system can be controlled from the 7.0-inch touchpad.
- Bluetooth and USB connection come standard on later models.
Generations
In 2006, Citroen released the C4 Picasso, but the Picasso nameplate was previously used with the popular Xsara Picasso models. The C4 Picasso was built to be a more spacious version of the C4 hatchback, and it was in the same lineup as the larger Grand C4 Picasso, giving families a choice on how much room was needed. The C4 Picasso was discontinued in 2018 after two generations of innovations and styling changes.
Second Generation (2013-2018)
With the release of a new generation, the C4 Picasso had slimmer LED daytime running lights located above the headlights in the bumper. Customers could choose between fog lamps and a hexagonal grille. The panoramic windscreen offered more sunlight and a better view of the road.
A 2016 refresh brought some changes to the powertrain lineup and a redesign of the front of the C4 Picasso. Several chrome inserts were added so that the front end could stand out more. In the rear, new taillights were added that gave the MPV a 3D appearance.
First Generation (2007-2013)
The C4 Picasso was released into the untapped MPV market as a larger version of the hatchback. A new design was utilised with a trapezoidal grille, angular-shaped headlights and tall, wide windows for the passengers. A sloped windscreen in the rear complemented the overall style.
During a 2010 update, only minor modifications were made. LEDs were installed to form daytime running lights and the front bumper had a few new components, including thicker chromed lines.
