Fiat 500 Automatic
The modern version of the classic Fiat 500 has been produced since 2007. It's a three-door hatchback that seats four and is loosely modelled on a famous type of the famous Fiat rear-engine mini-car that was first produced in 1936.
The modern 500 Automatic is a now front-engine, front-wheel drive supermini. It only paid lip-service to the original, for this is a contemporary car using all today's safety and comfort features that were missing in 1936.
The range has grown since the 500's 2007 rebirth to include sporty Abarth models - with the 695 Tributo Ferrari edition - and an open-top Cabrio version. A longer model, the 500L was launched in 2012, and a bigger crossover model, the 500X arrived in 2014.
The automatic Fiat 500 can come with a choice of petrol or diesel engines - with former going up to a 1.4L, and the latter reaching 1.3L. There are many customisation options offered by Fiat so expect a wide variety in colours and specifications.
Some 500s have a start-stop system to save fuel, others have a high-performance 157bhp engine. Equipment is generally good across the range however, with even the base models coming with power steering, electric front windows and an MP3/CD stereo system. Opt for a 'Sport' model and you add air-conditioning, alloy wheels and Bluetooth connectivity.
