Ford Cougar

The Ford Cougar is a large family coupe with a definite stylish feline look about it. Despite its rather low profile, it’s got quite a lot of interior space, a whole heap of equipment and a very sporty demeanour. While no longer produced, it’s fantastic value for money and manages to elbows its way towards the top of many people’s lists.

It pounced onto the motoring scene in 1998 and proved relatively successful until production ended in 2002. Based on the Modeo, the front wheel drive, 2 door Cougar was a great driver’s car and was powered by some decent engines, including a 2.5 litre V6. Some performance ‘X packs’ were available that added larger engines and more kit. Overall the Cougar was a great car that proved excellent value.

Quite impressive to look at, the Cougar combined classic Ford shapes with some altogether more sporty lines and sharp angles. The headlights in particular are cat like and really stand out, making the whole outside come alive. The interior is fresh, finished to a great standard, and makes the car feel like something much more up market. There’s a lot of space and the seats are more than comfortable, although rear leg room could be lacking for tall passengers. With a solid level of equipment and a generously sized boot, the Ford is practical and a cinch to use every day.

The Cougar really is a lot of fun to drive, and is as agile, nimble and speedy as the animal it’s named after. A massive amount of grip in the corners means you can drive with confidence and the responsive handling lets you go exactly where you want. While the ride is rather firm at regular speeds, it’s nicely balanced at speed and tackling country roads, car parks, urban areas and even motorways can be done with gusto. Despite not being a real sports car, the Ford comes with some engines that aren’t lacking in performance; the 2.5 litre V6 in particular is exciting and does the chassis and setup justice.

For prospective buyers, the good news is that you don’t have to hunting in the jungle to find a Cougar; Motors.co.uk is a far easier place to look. Listing upwards of 150,000 different second hand cars for sale, it’s incredibly easy to find a bargain because prices have been seriously reduced across the board. Add in the fact that only high quality autos are listed, and suddenly a getting a used Ford Cougar from here is like uncovering long lost treasure.

So it’s abundantly clear that the Ford Cougar is an excellent sporty coupe that has all the hallmarks of the famous American brand. It’s great to look at, well kitted out and very comfortable as well. Practicality is also part of its make up, so as an everyday car it’s more than competent. Add a bit of excitement to your life with this reasonably priced but nonetheless fantastic family friendly auto.
