Ford Focus Automatic

The Focus was launched in 1998 and it's a sign of its popularity that it's still on sale today. Automatic and manual gearboxes have always been available across the wide range of three and five door hatchbacks and five-door estates.

The Focus has always been a small family car that stands between the Fiesta and Mondeo ranges in Ford's line-up. It uses a conventional front-wheel drive arrangement and had a wide range of diesel and petrol engines to choose from. The Focus has become one of the world's best-selling cars.

There have been three generations and numerous updates since the Focus was first launched. The first model lasted until 2004, with a major facelift happening in 2001 and the important introduction of anti-lock brakes across the range in 2003. Then a second generation was on sale until 2010. All have been spacious, reliable and good to drive.

From 2008 a sophisticated dual clutch' Powershift automatic gearbox was gradually introduced across the Focus range. This is a smooth and refined high-tech unit that was widely acclaimed on its introduction.

If you are buying a used Focus with the Powershift system rest assured that the original buyer paid a hefty premium to fit the system to their car. The Powershift automatic is also better for fuel efficiency and the environment than the standard automatic transmission system.
