The i20 has a well-laid-out interior with comfy seats in the front and back with plenty of legroom and storage solutions. The boot of the i20 is exceptional for the car's size and most models feature an adjustable boot floor for easier loading. The i20 comes in a range of engines and trims. The 1.0L petrol engine is available as a 5-speed manual or 7-speed automatic and is capable of 49 mpg. If you're looking for more long-range driving, the 1.4L diesel engine claims to reach 68 mpg and has a similar power output to that of the smaller petrol. The standard S trim sees the i20 come with a great set of features, although stepping up to the SE or Premium trim offers great value for money due to the small step up in price for a massive gain in features.
The i20's entry-level S trim has a decent set of features that make owning and running the car more enjoyable as well as providing some important safety aspects. Here are a few we like:
The Hyundai i20's higher-level trims rapidly increase the quality and number of features available, without costing too much. Here are a few of our favourites. Features will vary depending upon the model and year:
The i20 is an option you should seriously consider if you're in the market for a practical small/medium-sized hatchback. The value for money provided by the i20 is fantastic, especially if you upgrade to the higher-level trims. it's amazing how much Hyundai managed to squeeze inside without compromising boot space, legroom or general comfort. Decent fuel economy combined with insurance groups as low as 5 make the i20 a very affordable car to own and run. We'd recommend the SE trim or higher so that you can enjoy the air-conditioning and cruise control, while the 1.0L 120 bhp petrol engine is a great option that balances power and fuel economy.
The Hyundai i20 is not ideal for large families, especially in the 3-door model. However, the 5-door model provides ample space for a small family, with plenty of room in the back and the boot. The i20 also achieved a 4* Euro NCAP rating which is rather impressive for an inexpensive small hatchback. Combine this with the lane keep assist and forward collision prevention, and the i20 is a good choice if you're looking for a safe family car.
The Hyundai i20 comes with an unlimited mileage 5-year warranty which is incredibly impressive and a testament to Hyundai's confidence in the mechanical quality of the car. When buying a second-hand i20, look to see how much of that 5-year warranty is left for peace of mind.
Unfortunately, there is no electric or hybrid version of the i20 available. Hyundai is only offering electric/ hybrid drivetrains on its larger and more expensive saloons and SUVs. That being said the i20s 1.1L CRDi Blue diesel engine only outputs 84 g/km of CO2.
The i20 is a great value car in all aspects. The low purchase price and great deals on used models combined with the fuel-efficient engines make it an attractive option for those on a budget. For new drivers, the incredibly low insurance groups ranging from 4-12 means that the i20 is an ideal first car to keep insurance premiums down while you build your no claims bonus.
