Hyundai has offered numerous engines for the Tucson including petrol, diesel and hybrid. These have featured both manual or automatic gearboxes, as well as the option of front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

Petrol
  • 1.6 T-GDi turbocharged engine is used in all newer models (non-hybrid, mild hybrid and plug-in). Expect fuel economy of around 43mpg.
  • 147bhp is available in a non-hybrid configuration, providing a 0-62mph time of 10.3 seconds. Fuel economy is around 40mpg.
  • MHEV adds a 48-volt system for more efficiency, even though the power remains the same – though there is a 177bhp variant.
  • Fastest Tucson is the full hybrid model with 211bhp, a 0-62mph of 8 seconds and a top speed of 120mph. Its fuel economy of 50mpg is impressive, too.
  • Most powerful Tucson is the 261bhp plug-in hybrid with a 0-62mph time of 8.6 seconds, offering up to 31 miles of driving on electric only.
Diesel
  • Older models include a 114bhp 1.7-litre and a 134bhp 1.6-litre mild hybrid. These can achieve fuel economy in the mid-50s range.

  • Available electrically controlled, heated front seats make the drive more comfortable.
  • Centre rear seat has an elevated position, so it's best suited for children.

Different generations of used Hyundai TUCSON

When the Hyundai Tucson was first released in 2004, it was meant to be a budget-friendly 4x4 and it checked all those boxes. Throughout the four generations, Hyundai continued to upgrade and refine the Tucson, making it more comfortable for families. More powertrain options and upmarket features are now offered, all of which helped to make the model one of the top selling crossover SUVs in the UK.

Fourth Generation (2020 to Present)

The fourth-generation Tucson had a completely unique design, separate from previous models. It appeared more like a coupé SUV than a crossover, giving it an athletic visual appeal. The huge grille was matched with futuristic headlights and two air scoops for improved cooling. Inside, the infotainment screen and instrument cluster were also swapped out for more modern offerings.

A 2023 refresh brought a silver skid plate-type trim under the front to make the Tucson look like an off-roader. It also included new alloy wheel designs and a redesigned rear bumper that ,more closely matched the front end.

Third Generation (2015 to 2021)

Hyundai's goal with the third-generation Tucson was to give it a more sporty appearance. New engines were also released to ensure better fuel efficiency. Also, Hyundai increased the wheelbase to offer more interior space and comfort.

By 2019, the Tucson was ready for an update. A new cascading front grille was added with updated headlights and LED daytime running lights. The N-Line spoiler became more prominent, with bigger side air intakes added. The rear bumper was also given a new look.
