Kia Ceed generations

The Kia Ceed arrived in 2007 as the first model from the company that was designed and built in Europe, specifically for a European audience. Now in its third generation, the Ceed continues to be a fantastic option for people who are looking for a good-value family hatchback that doesn't sacrifice style or comfort.

Third Generation (2018 to Present)

The Kia Ceed entered a new generation in 2018 after more than one million models had been sold. Because of this, the company knew that it didn't need to make any major changes. It retained its fresh, sporty design with headlights similar to the Stinger. Inside the cabin, the Ceed received some upmarket touches that added sophistication to the mix without losing any of the comfort.

Kia also updated the safety technology, ensuring that it continued to remain current. With the multilink rear suspension, drivers also appreciated the stability and handling it offered.

Second Generation (2012 to 2018)

Not long after its initial launch, Kia was ready to redesign the Ceed with a new generation. Sharing a mechanical platform with the Hyundai i30, the Ceed was both affordable and attractive. It had a "tiger-nose" front-end design with a pinched grille on both sides, topped with swept-back headlights. While the dimensions remained the same as the previous generation, it was visually more appealing because of the significant styling changes.

A refresh arrived in 2015 with a new bumper and LED taillights. Kia also released some new design 16- and 17-inch alloy wheels.

First Generation (2007 to 2012)

Kia decided to build a hatchback that was specifically designed for the European market, and the Ceed was a spacious and practical model. The initial design was sporty and compact, with a minimalistic design. This didn't hold the model back and proved to be popular UK car buyers.

In 2009, Kia saw the success that the Ceed was having and decided to release an update. The car received a new grille and headlights to refresh the front styling. The taillights were also redesigned to match the front. About an inch was added to the length of the Ceed because of the new bumpers, and several updated wheel designs were launched.

Used Kia Ceed FAQ's

Which is the most popular engine in the Kia Ceed?

The petrol engines have been the most popular. While the GT version is the most fun to drive with its 201bhp turbo engine, most customers have leaned towards the budget-friendly 1.0-litre engine because it's far more fuel efficient.

Which are the most popular model variants?

Kia currently offers the Ceed in four variants: 2, GT-Line, 3 and GT-Line S. The 3 has been the most popular because of its improved levels of technology, innovative features and unique styling for a decent price. These features include dual-zone climate control, rain-sensing wipers, rear parking sensors, privacy glass and larger alloy wheels.

What optional extras should I look out for?

There have been so many available upgrades with the Ceed that it's easy to find something unique and stylish. Customers should look out for fun wheel designs combined with various colours and upgraded equipment, such as heated seats.

Is the Kia Ceed a good family car?

Even with the hatchback style, there's a lot of room in the Ceed for a family. Five adults can fit comfortably in the cabin and there are ISOFIX points for child seats. There's also a decent boot area with no load lip to hold luggage.

Is there a hybrid version of the Kia Ceed?

The standard Ceed lineup does feature mild hybrid technology, but the Xceed and Ceed Sportswagon have a plug-in hybrid configuration that allows for up to 36 miles of pure electric driving per charge, before transitioning to petrol/electric hybrid power.

Is the Kia Ceed available as an automatic?

Yes, used Kia Ceed examples can be found with an automatic transmission, but the majority of used models come with a manual gearbox instead. Even though there aren't as many options for an automatic, you shouldn't have any trouble finding one in their price range.

Is there a four-wheel drive version available?

No, all Kia Ceed models have standard front-wheel drive. There's no need for this hatchback to have four-wheel drive capability as it's meant to be a daily driver. The front-wheel drive configuration ensures maximum efficiency.
