Lexus SC
Lexus really does have all bases covered with its roster of luxury cars, and the SC is aimed at the 2 door coupe cabriolet market. A stylish auto, it’s got all the characteristics you’d expect from the Japanese company- an excellent build quality, heap loads of equipment and a fantastic driving experience. The truth is that if you’re looking for a sporty hard top convertible car, there’s much more out there than regular European marques.
While the Lexus SC was released in 1991, the original version was a standard coupe. It was only from the second generation onwards that the cabriolet part was added, and actually this improved the car massively. Production ended in 2010. Always a looker though, the SC sported a series of big V8 engines that delivered a lot of power and underline its sporting credentials further.
Very luxurious to look at, the SC has the appeal of a high quality car just on first sight. The nicely curved bonnet, pert and sexy rear end, and big alloy wheels certainly put it more in the GT bracket; it’s great with the roof up or down however. The interior is lavishly decorated but not overly ‘in your face’. There are some lovely wood and leather combinations that work well together, and the controls are very easy to use too. Even though there are 4 seats, the rear ones have almost no leg room, so a probably best used as extra storage space. The front is nice and spacious though and comfort isn’t lacking at all. With only 1 trim level, you get a whole lot of equipment, as is traditional in a Lexus.
Despite its big engine and sporty attitude, the SC is quite lazy and much prefers to cruise around on straight roads than get stuck into back roads with lots of corners. Ask too much of it and it’ll throw a wobbly, which isn’t very composed. A soft ride makes the whole experience quite enjoyable, and as a long distance cruiser it’s great. Indeed the V8 engine sounds great and is rather fast, and this helps take attention away from the lousy handling.
To be honest, the Lexus is rather over priced for what you get, but buying second hand can turn all that around and make it exceptional value for money. At Motors.co.uk you’ll be privy to some awesome price reductions and as it’s packed full of quality, nothing will be lacking in the slightest. Pay less for a used Lexus SC and drive away in a fully loaded, fast and brilliantly designed car.
Ultimately the Lexus SC is a fantastic auto that doesn’t really know what it is. The coupe cabriolet design and big engine makes it seem like a nippy roadster, but sadly the driving experience isn’t up to the job. Better suited as a grand tourer or long distance cruiser though, it’s a comfortable and super stylish way to drive around. An abundance of kit, unrivalled build quality and renowned reliability make it a great pre owned buy.
