The limited-production Ferrari 488 comes with a 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8, making it a fraction smaller than the 4.0-litre engine in the McLaren 720S. Still, the 488 manages to produce 1 HP more than the 710 HP McLaren 720S. However, the McLaren completes the 0-62 mph sprint in 2.8 seconds, marginally outperforming the Ferrari outfit's 3.0 seconds. On top speed, the 720S again beats the 488 but with only 1 mph at 212 mph. Given how marginal these performance differences are, the choice between these 2 rivals usually comes down to brand preference rather than performance.

As part of the new era revolution of McLaren, the 720S does come with an infotainment system. It includes a large and intuitive portrait touchscreen on the dashboard's centre, taken from BMW's iDrive system. It also includes a high-quality audio system, a track telemetry system for downloading car data, a sat-nav system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

McLaren broke the confining cabin setup that has become the norm for supercars by providing the 720S with a spacious cabin. The centre console provides sufficient room for phones, and you'll also find a parcel shelf behind the seats. In addition, even tall passengers will find the 720S pretty comfortable.

The McLaren 720S has 2 boots: one in the front and another in the back. The nose bay has a capacity of 50 litres, while the rear has a 210-litre capacity. Even though McLaren can carry a couple of luggage bags, you would be doing the supercar a major disservice if you use it to haul bulky goods.

The McLaren 720s has the MonoCage II core structure and comprises a carbon fibre chassis. The MonoCage II structure combines the body-tub and roof into a single unit, allows for larger door cutouts and improves visibility for drivers. It also makes the car incredibly durable and strong against impacts. Besides the robust frame, you'll only get parking sensors and parking cameras fitted standard on the McLaren 720S. There are no active safety tech features, such as blind-spot monitoring and lane-keep assistance. As with all supercars, the Euro NCAP has never crash-tested the McLaren 720S, so no official safety rating is available.
