Mercedes CLK

The Mercedes-Benz CLK is a mid sized luxury auto that has been a mainstay at the company for many years and delivers a unique approach to sporty driving. At first glance, it’s really a stereotypical Merc in that it looks fantastic, drives exceptionally well and is full of the highest quality kit. But there’s a certain X-Factor about it that’s different to the norm, and although you can’t quite put your finger on it, it’s something that makes all the difference.

Mercedes cars tend to have long tenures when they are released, and the CLK is no different. It was produced from 1996 and was available in both coupe and cabriolet models; it ended its run in 2009. Over that time several generations were released, each one pushing the boundaries of style, engineering and performance that little bit further. Indeed the most modern variants were incredible to behold from the outside, and it’s easy to see why the CLK was so popular.

With a hugely comfortable and plush interior, an air of solidity was apparent, and you’d expect nothing less from the German company. Longer journeys aren’t a problem and in fact you crave to spend more time on the road, as the CLK is such a nice place to sit in. While it’s not built for practicality, there’s a decent amount of room inside and the boot is large enough to make day to day use very easy.

The driving experience is where the car really stands out, and it’s phenomenal. Having spent time as the Formula 1 Safety Car, you’d expect it to be poised and precise, and it is. The ride is comfortable and you can feel the whole road through the steering wheel, so feel totally in control. With several engine options available, from 1.8 litres to 6.2 litre V6s in the AMG version, there’s a power plant to suit everyone’s needs.

The CLK is very expensive to buy off the shelf, and the highest quality trim and engine spec can push £100,000. It’s logical then to look for other means to get your hands on this awesome auto for less of the cost. At you can find a used Mercedes CLK for a fraction of the price, and the great thing is that quality doesn’t evaporate into the ether overnight so what you’ll get will be seriously good.

So the Mercedes CLK is a great car to check out if you’re looking for something mid sized, luxurious and sporty. It offers an epic driving experience and gives you all the comfort in the world. Whether you go for the coupe or cabriolet one thing is for sure- you’ll instantly realise why Mercedes is a world beater!
