The Nissan Almera Tino is a compact MPV that's essentially an inflated version of the Almera hatchback. it's spacious, well equipped and very user friendly- all characteristics that families look for the most. While it's not the most exciting people carrier in terms of style, it gets on with the job very well indeed, and doesn't cost a huge amount either.
Produced between 2000 and 2006, the 5 door Tino has a front wheel drive layout and seating for 5 people in total. Various different engines are available, including 1.8 and 2.0 litre petrols and a 2.2 litre commonrail diesel. Not all that fast, they do provide a good punch. Thanks to some technology sharing with Renault, some similarities can be seen between the Tino and Scenic, which isn't a bad thing. The Nissan was updated in 2003 with some design and cabin alterations.
To be honest the Almera Tino looks like pretty much any other small MPV out there, and certainly doesn't re-invent the wheel. Its lack of flair is actually quite refreshing because too many new models push hard to get the upper hand. This one let them get on with it and saved the important stuff for inside. Yes the cabin is nicely styled, and is very functional to use with some chunky buttons and a clear layout. All trim levels get a huge amount of kit, and comfort is a top priority. There's a lot of space and a big 440 litre boot.
On the road, the Nissan feels like a much smaller car, probably because it's just a taller version of the normal Almera. There's a comfortable ride and some good feedback through the steering. The FWD setup means cornering isn't an issue and you can drive on back roads, city streets or motorways without thinking twice. Speed isn't a major trait of this car, but the 2.2 litre diesel engine is definitely the one to go for as it balances pulling power with decent economy.
Actually one of the best things about the Tino is the price, especially on the pre owned car market. You'll be looking at some hefty discounts and it's so well built that quality won't really be an issue either. Motors.co.uk is one of the premier auto websites around, and has a simply staggering selection of second hand cars for sale. Pay less for a used Nissan Almera Tino and enjoy it much more.
The clear point is that if you're looking for an MPV that's budget friendly and offers all the important things like space, comfort, versatility and an impressive array of equipment, the Nissan is definitely worth a look. it's a good all rounder that does what it says on the tin and won't disappoint.
