Engines and transmissions

Nissan offers a choice between petrol and hybrid powertrains with the newest models. There's also an available CVT and either front- or four-wheel drive.

Petrol

1.5-litre turbocharged mild hybrid engine produces 160bhp.
e-Power hybrid variant creates around 200bhp (depending on model) for a fuel efficiency rating of up to 48.6mpg.

Diesel

Earlier models included diesel engine variants, including a 1.6 litre engine with 128bhp, a 1.7 litre engine with 147bhp, and the biggest of the bunch - a 2.0 litre engine - with 174bhp.
Fuel economy was up to 50mpg, depending on the configuration.

Practicality

Because the Nissan X-Trail can be configured with either five or seven seats, it's practical for families of any size.

Interior space

Available full-length sunroof creates a warm, bright environment.
Back seats are supportive and offer enough shoulder room.
Front adjustable seats offer premium materials and good viewing points.

Boot space

Five-seaters have 585 litres of boot space and a flat floor.
Seven-seaters have 485 litres with the back seats folded down.

Different generations of used Nissan X-Trail

When the X-Trail was launched in 2001, it looked more like an off-roader. Since then, it has been through four generations. In all of these generations, Nissan updated the styling and technology to keep it competitive in the large SUV segment. All generations offer a huge amount of space for maximum comfort.

Fourth Generation (2022 to 2021)

The latest generation X-Trail received a new front end and grille design. New LED headlamps were added to the front for increased visibility. It was also equipped with a raked-forward rear windscreen that changed the overall shape.

Inside the cabin, Nissan created a more inviting environment with a TFT instrument panel and a 12.3-inch infotainment display. Hybrid powertrains were offered for the first time.

Third Generation (2014 to 2021)

Leaving behind the boxy shape, Nissan gave the X-Trail softer lines and an aerodynamic style in the third generation. There was also added chrome around the grille and an optional panoramic glass roof.

A 2017 refresh provided an enhanced instrument display cluster with a colour screen between the dials. It was also available with heated seats both the front and rear, a luxury not normally seen at this price point.

Second Generation (2007 to 2014)

Introduced in 2007, the second-generation X-Trail didn't look much different from the original, except for bigger headlights and rounded corners. Nissan also added a wider D-pillar to give it a unique look.

Inside the cabin, there was space for five adults as Nissan didn't add the higher seating capacity until later. With the flat rear floor, there was additional legroom for rear passengers.
