Porsche may be best-known for their hard-tops, but they also have a great choice of convertibles too both in cabriolet and Targa variants.

The classic 911 comes with a choice of engines, including two 3.6L versions and a 3.8L too. Of the 3.6L engines it's the turbo-powered one that promises the best performance with a 0-62 acceleration figure of just four seconds.

The convertibles are also just as good to drive as their hard-top counterparts, especially the four-wheel drive versions, and all benefit from the highly effective Porsche Active Suspension Management System. In terms of practicality, the Targa has the edge thanks to its hatchback-style rear opening.

The other convertibles come courtesy of the Boxter range and have both 2.7L and 3.4L engines, the larger of which develops 295bhp. There's also the choice of a six-speed manual or a PDK semi-automatic gearbox. It's a superb car to drive in all conditions and at all speeds with a body shell that has none of the flex that affects the handling in many types of convertible. With a high spec and numerous optional extras, like parking sensors and xenon lights, it's also as sophisticated as it is sporty.
