The Renault Grand Modus is a large mini MPV that's pretty much the regular Modus only with a bit more length and a bigger boot. Aimed squarely at the family market, it aims to be practical, frugal with fuel and easy to drive. You can tick every one of those characteristics, because it does them all very well.
Introduced in 2008 off the back of a redesign, the Grand Modus looks the part and performs just as well. The 5 door people carrier is front wheel drive and comes with a collection of small engines, including the 1.5 litre diesel found in the Clio. Some excellent safety features and high EuroNCAP scores give it rather a lot of kudos.
Fun and funky, the Grand Modus is a typical Renault car. The front grille has a knowing smile about it, and the rear end is small but perfectly formed. There's a tiny roof mounted spoiler just in case by some miracle it turns into a performance car. Comfort wise, the cabin is very good and there's a good amount of space to play with. 5 seats mean it's versatile for family motoring, and the huge boot is accommodating for shopping, luggage and even larger items. Some nice trim spec levels and a functional cockpit are all great features too.
Driving the Renault couldn't be easier because it handles well and remains poised on most road surfaces. Very predictable, it can take to city streets and back roads well, and cruising along motorways isn't troublesome in the slightest. Parking is easy thanks to some excellent power steering. The engines, while small, are lively and very economical.
One of the best things about buying a second hand Renault Grand Modus is the low price you'll pay for it. Shop at MOTORS and you'll be entitled to some humongous price reductions, but quality remains very high at the same time. it's the best of both worlds, and you really can pick up a phenomenal bargain with used cars for sale.
Ultimately then, the Grand Modus is a brilliant people carrier that's slightly bigger than 'mini' but certainly not full size. Practical, good looking and quite fun to drive, it's a must have for families who want all the trappings of a big MPV without the actual mass. Typically Renault, it's French through and through.
