Over its long lifespan, Renault built the Megane with petrol and diesel engines, a manual or an automatic transmission, and standard front-wheel drive.

Petrol

128bhp 1.2-litre entry-level engine provides more than 50mpg and returns 120g/km of CO2 emissions.
GT 1.3-litre generates 138bhp with up to 45.6mpg, while older GT models included a 216bhp 2.0-litre with a 38mpg efficiency rating.
Megane RS hot hatchback includes a 295bhp 1.8-litre engine, taking the car from 0 to 62mph in 5.7 seconds, though older models include a 276bhp variant with a 35.8mpg efficiency rating.

Diesel

dCi 110 generates 108bhp with a 0-60mph time of 10.9 seconds.
ENERGY dCi 130 produces 128bhp and reaches 60mph in 9.7 seconds.
Both have efficiency ratings of more than 70mpg, with CO2 emission figures under 100g/km for the entry-level model.

The five-door Megane models were specifically created for families, offering plenty of interior room and a decent amount of boot space.

Two adults can fit in the back seat, while three children will find it exceptionally spacious.
Fitting a child seat is easy with the wide open doors and ISOFIX points.

Different generations of used Renault Megane

Renault released the Megane in 1996, with it taking the place of the Renault 19, even though it shared many of the same underpinnings. It didn't take long before the hatchback earned the title of European Car of the Year (2003), mainly because of its high safety rating and stylish appearance. After many revisions and four generations, Renault decided to discontinue the Megane in 2022 to focus on the E-Tech 100% electric model.

Fourth Generation (2018 to 2022)

When the new models arrived for a fourth generation, they featured a whole new design. Taller headlights were complemented by C-shaped signature daytime running lights cutting into the bumper. Below that, a grille was added to cool the engine, while the side scoops were fitted for the available fog lamps.

A 2020 update gave the Megane RS models new powertrain options, updated exhaust vents in the front, and redesigned alloy wheels. New black door mirror caps and some uniquely sculptured lines set the lineup apart from the other models.

Third Generation (2008 to 2020)

Even though there were now several bodystyles available for the Megane, the five-door hatchback became the most popular overall. It featured a strong safety rating and was perfect for families. Angular shapes were employed for the body, and the tailgate was given a curved back window to give the car an extended look.

A facelift of the models occurred in 2006, along with the release of the GT. This sportier option included integrated fog lights and a broader grille. There were also now two exhausts coming out of the rear bumper.
