More SEAT Leon Information
This sporty version of the Seat Leon hatchback was introduced in 2006. The first cars to wear the FR badge (standing for Formula Racing) in the UK, were the 2.0L TFSI, a 2.0L twin-camshaft model, and the 2.0L TDI turbodiesel. In 2009, the FR designation was also given to the 2.0L TSI model, with a slightly up-rated version of the previous petrol engine.
The Leon, of course, is the Spanish car-maker's version of its parent company's classic, the VW Golf. It also shares an underlying platform with the Skoda Octavia and Audi A3. The Leon comes as a three-door or five-door hatch or an estate.
Among the range of Leon's, the FR is generally the designation of the model with the highest performance and sportiest trim, apart from the super-fast Cupra models. Often, however, buyers find that the FR has almost compatible performance, more sensible looks - and is cheaper to buy and run.
Yes, it has special sport handling characteristics including lowered suspension, but the changes are not as extreme in the FR as in the Cupra. Most owners report that the FR offers a perfect balance between ride comfort and handling precision.
