Toyota MR2

Japanese sports cars are jaw dropping to behold and can only be described as epic. Looking back over the years there have been some true legends, but in terms of those that can be driven and enjoyed on a daily basis, few come close to the Toyota MR2. It’s just awesome to drive and provides a huge amount of fun, impressive visuals and a lot of excitement.

The MR2 burst onto the motoring scene in 1984 and certainly turned some heads. It was a firm favourite until production ceased in 2007. Over the years 3 different generations were released, each one totally different and unique. The first (1984 to 1989) was sharp, angular and aggressive in design, and looked like Darth Vader’s helmet when seen in black. The second generation (1990 to 1999) was much more refined and almost European in nature; it bore a similarity to some Ferrari cars of the time. The third and final model (2000-2007) was comparatively docile and looked like a Porsche Boxter.

There’s no question then that the MR2 is varied in terms of design, but things stayed pretty much the same throughout in terms of performance. Basically the Toyota was immense to drive; fast, noisy and precise are words that could be used to describe it, but you only really understand once you’ve got behind the wheel of one. There’s a phenomenal amount of grip thanks to some Japanese technological wizardry and the handling is surgically precise. From twisty country roads to motorways, the MR2 is brilliant everywhere.
