Bury

Located in Greater Manchester, Bury is a former mill town with a population of about 60,000. It’s partnered with a range of different places around the world, including Datong in China and Woodbury in New Jersey, USA.

Like many other towns in the north of England, Bury made its name during the cotton production boom of the Industrial Revolution, although it had previously been a market location as far back as the medieval period. A great number of mills and associated canals can be found from the 18th century and a railway was created in the 19th to aid export.

The town has a long standing military history, and is the regimental centre of the Lancashire Fusiliers, who have been involved in the Napoleonic Wars, the Boer War and the First and Second World Wars to name a few. The numerous monuments dotted around Bury demonstrate the success and pride.

After the decline of the cotton industry, much change befall the town and development is still going on today. Shopping centres dominate where mills once stood, as the area looks to become more culture and business oriented.

Bury is renowned for black pudding, a traditional dish, as well as the open air market that has been going for centuries. Other landmarks include a castle, military museum, Peel tower and the East Lancashire Railway. The local football club, Bury F.C, is also a hugely important part of the town’s fabric.

Due to its location near the Pennines, it has to be said that Bury is a good destination for motorists looking to cruise back roads and enjoy the open country. There’s nothing like heading over the moors on a warm summer’s day, and actually some lanes prove quite the challenge.

At Motors.co.uk you can find loads of used cars for sale in Bury and surrounding areas like Manchester. Incredibly low prices combined with an excellent quality make getting your hands on a bargain a very easy task. You really can get more bang for your buck buying second hand!
