Heavily based on its German counterpart, the Rexton is a mid size SUV from one of the least well known South Korean motoring manufacturers. First released in 2001, the SsangYong is ideal for families living in areas with rough terrain. A formidable off roader, the Rexton has quite a hardy setup that lets it dominate anything from icy conditions to muddy fields.

All there is to say about the exterior design is that it's big and bold. It's pretty plain to be honest, although the front grille is a nice addition. Unfussy and businesslike, it does what it says in the brochure. Spacious and comfortable inside, there's enough room for 5 people to relax. It's a big boy for sure, and that means no lack of boot space which is ideal for carrying luggage, shopping or even large dogs. While the cabin isn’t at all related to Mercedes, there's still a fantastic amount of kit, and everything is put together well. Basically it's just as modest as the outside, but is very functional.

Like many other excellent off road cars, the SssangYong isn’t the most refined on tarmac. The ride is firm and the steering is quite dull, but it gets the job done and upgraded models are much more nimble. Take it on the rough stuff though and it's phenomenal; rivers, hills, sand, dirt, and probably mountain tops pose no trouble for it. Happily telling Mother Nature where to get off, this car really doesn't hold back.
