Engines and transmissions

Hyundai has released the Ioniq with a hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric configuration. Hybrid models have a dual-clutch automatic transmission, while the electric variants use a single-speed gearbox. All variants power the front wheels.

Electric

28kWh battery offers a maximum driving range of around 193 miles.
118bhp configuration can provide a 0-62mph time of 9.7 seconds.
134bhp configuration can achieve 0-60mph in 9.6 seconds.
Charging occurs in as little as 30 minutes with a fast charger, six hours with a Wallbox, and 11 hours with a domestic home charger.

Petrol

Self-charging 1.6-litre GDI engine produces 139bhp for a 0-62mph time of 10.8 seconds and fuel economy of up to 78mpg.
PHEV also has an output of 139bhp and offers up to 39 miles of electric driving per charge.

Practicality

The Hyundai Ioniq provides the space needed for a family to get comfortable and offers an enjoyable drive in the city or on the motorway.

Interior space

Tall passengers can find a comfortable position even in the back seats.
Three children fit well in the rear seat; two adults with a child fit in the middle.
Back doors open wide, giving quick access to the ISOFIX anchor points for child seats.

Boot space

443-litre boot in hybrid variants is larger than the Kia Niro, but the electric model has a reduced capacity of 350 litres because of the increased room taken up by batteries.
Folding the rear seats (60:40) opens up 1,505 litres of space.
Wide, square boot opening allows for large boxes to be packed.

Safety

Perfect five-star safety rating in 2016 Euro NCAP testing.
Adult occupant given a top score of 91%, with safety assist at 82% and child occupant at 80%.
Standard kit includes an array of airbags and automatic emergency braking.

Technology

Large 10.25-inch touchscreen display is easier to read than the standard 8.0-inch version.
Available satnav offers live traffic and fuel information.
Connectivity is seamless through Bluetooth, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
All-digital instrument cluster can be personalised with various colours and display options.
